She found a lump last week, had a needle biopsy yesterday and it was confirmed
as invasive ductal....treatment hasnt been decided yet.

This disease is everywhere...I really hate it.

It's bad enough to be dx wtih BC but I think it would be worse to have it on the front page of the news! The up side is it does drawn attention to the disease, hopefully will help raise more awareness for a cure.

Good point Sara. I was thinking how awful that would be if you are a really private person. Selfishly its nice to know that it does focus everyones attention on our issue. I wish with all my heart that we would never again hear anyone found a lump. I agree Cathi, this disease is mean and hateful. L&H Joyce

I read that she got the news on Wed, the day that the Dems conceded. Wow, that poor family....and I guess she found the lump last week but waited for the biopsy to continue campaigning. I can't imagine having that pressure and anxiety along with that of my husband's vice presidential race!

A few celebs/ public figures lately....with Melissa Ethridge, Deanna Favre and Elizabeth Edwards. Sure hope they are ok!

That's too bad.  I hadn't heard.  I haven't been listening to the news.  It goes to show this disease knows no boundaries.

Well maybe now it will be more important on Capital Hill.  As much as I hate to see anyone be diagnosed with this for some reason a disease is not important until a "famous" person gets it.  I mean c'mon .. do  you think Michael J. Fox gave a hoopla about Parkinson disease twenty five years ago when he was on Family Ties.   I am sorry that she was diagnosed but I am sorry that all of us have to deal with this disease with no cure in sight.  Longer life spans but no cure.

Well, this is sure a black week for the Edwards family, and one they will never forget.  I wish Elizabeth well, and continue to pray that hers is the last diagnosis.  BTW, California passed an initiative that very same day for stem cell research.  Maybe they'll find a cure for all of us.

I also saw the news today.  The first thought in my head was "Oh my gosh this is truly a terrible thing to happen to you and your family!  Let me reach out and help you simply because I have been there and done that!!  Let all of our sisters that have gone through this before you help you - that is what we are HERE for."  Please, let us help this unite us.  It does not matter where she comes from, what her politics are, where she has been before or even where she is going --- well except getting through this with our help.  THAT IS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT!!  My prayers are that somehow she can find the strength to get through this and maybe along the way if we can help her that we can.  THEN, if she can help us race, run or find a cure she will be leading the pack.  Let's do what we can to help her - MK - you're so good at finding addresses - how about a card shower?  Let's just simply help this woman!!!  Don't you all remember hearing the diagnosis the first time?  This is just too frightening to go through alone.  Not even your Mommy understands what you're feeling.

Love, hugs and friendship,

Cathy

It just makes me so angry that Elizabeth Edwards has been dx'd with BC.  What a difficult week for the Edwards Family.  Conceding this election must have been very difficult, but to have to sit there before television cameras knowing that there was an elephant in the corner besides takes a powerful lot of courage.  My heart just aches for all of them, but for EE most of all.  Her husband will be great I'm sure, but she will still need others.  I'm for a gigantic card shower, too. (Grandma Cathy, it's a good thing you've suggested)!!  We can get them all together and send them in one huge envelope.  She'd like getting all of those cards at once I'm sure.  MK, turn on your detective powers and get us an address.  Maybe Glenda, living in NC, will have some info.

I'll be happy to collect the cards and mail them too.  Anything to make this easier to bear.  I don't often get philosophical on this board, but I find that the more I give of myself the less this wretched disease makes me miserable.  Come on, gals, get those cards ready.  We need to make one more woman's life more gentle as she begins this difficult, difficult journey.  L&H's, Luci

PS-This is women gathering together to love another sister struggling with fear and choices. It's support for someone who's going to have to become an expert on BC in a very short time; it's plain, old-fashioned caring about another human being.

Luci,

That's what we are here for!!!! Let us unite! Trust me, ya'll are what got me through this - every last single one of you. I really didn't care who was controversial (SP?) or not - if I got so much as a crumb I was happy. And still am. Let's continue to do this together - okay?

L&H,
Cathy

Great idea Luci, my card will be in the mail tomorrow. You girls are all wonderful. I read in yesterday's paper that she was having the lumpectomy in DC because that is where the kids are in school and she will be home with them. Thanks again for a wonderful idea. Love you all, MK
