Hi, I have a an underarm bruise that wont go away. I am 51 y/o female. Wondered if bruising is a breast cancer symptom? I also have a terribly itchy left-sore nipple-breast that is getting real uncomfortable. I just made an appt. with my family Dr. for tomorrow morning, so I suppose I'll get my answers then, but am just concerned. My sister in Law wants me to see a surgeon....which I think is jumping the gun a bit. Anyway, thought I'd ask. Thanks
Hugs~Katie

I think your family doctor is a good place to start. I don't know that bruising is a symptom. Could it be from some of the other health issues you have? The itchy, sore nipple could be a number of things. There is a type of breast cancer that is associated with itchy, flaking, red, irritated skin specific to the nipple. It is called "Paget's disease," and it is very treatable. But it could also be a rash, infection, etc... Your family doctor should be able to help you figure out exactly what it is. Let us know what he says!

Well by the time I got to my family Dr. this morning my left breast was and still is very swollen and red and still quite painful. I saw the nurse practionoer who didn't have much to say about the bruise but thinks I have mastitis. She put me on Augmentin ( a antibiotic)that I have to take for 10 days then wants me to have a mammogram Jan.5th since it has been 2 years since my last one. She said he felt no lumps and I don't either. So I feel pretty relieved that it seems to be nothing to worry about. Thanks for being here for me though, I wish all you guys the best! Katie

Katie, that is great news! Glad to hear that antibiotics will take care of the problem.

Hi, well this darn 'nipple pain' is not going away even though I have been diagnosed w/mastitus and took the Augmentin for 10 days. I called to let my Dr. know that I am still having problems and now they have me going into see a surgeon for biopsy January 6th. I had a mammo recently and it was normal. Tonight, for some reason it is REALLY sore. If it is still this horribly sore in the morning i may see if they can get me in a little sooner. UGH! It hurts under my arm now to, but I cant feel and swollen nodes. I have a sports bra on to help support, but this hurts like crazy, especially right in the middle of my nipple....not itching anymore...just sharp pain. Has ANYONE experianced this before? Thanks!
