I was so excited and still am about my 5 year anniversary.  I even went ahead and schedule surgery to reduce and lift the non-cancer breast to become somewhat even.  Had my visit with oncologist yesterday and was so ready to move on to next step.  Problem is my blood test show I am not in menopause which you need to be to take the letrozole. They are recommending I take due to the nature of the orginal cancer.  Evidently I'm looking at either taking monthly lupron shots until natural menopause or surgically removing ovaries.  I thought for sure I had been thrown into menopause.  No periods, changing skin, hot flashes and night sweats (early on in treatment which led to zoloft) vaginal dryness, saggy non-radiated boob.  And no memory !

So now, I'm looking at cancelling my vanity surgery in anticipation I may need to do handle the ovaries.

Any information/advise you ladies can share with me will be greatly appreciated.

If anyone has done the lupron or the oophrectomy your experiences will appreciated.

I just read another post about coverage being denied for that surgery plus a hysterectomy.  I will have to check that out. I did get the OK for the left breast reduction.

P.S.  I cannot believe Carla has passed and I missed it in the paper. She struggled so much from the beginning.  I felt guilty I was doing well. Because of her struggles I pray for her peace now and that of her family. God Bless you OhioRed ! Your Buckeyes beat Michigan today.  Love, Julie (jules)

Hi Jules-
I can't help with the other issues, but congrats on 5 years! I hit 5 years in 10 days, but 5 years for Tamox will be in June. 7 months from today, in fact.

I bleed maize and blue, and was not happy with today's game. But Carla, they did this for you! Thank goodness Wisconsin crumbled so we still get to see Roses...

Lori

You know I was thinking about Carla, and how she must be celebrating. How could you guess Ohiored could possibly love her team? I finished my 5 years of tamox. last August. I have now been on femara. So sorry I can not help, but I can certainly cheer about your five years. Congratulations. Joyce

Hey Jules. good to see you. It's been awhile!!!! How well I remember being so concerned about your infection after surgery. Five years ago was when I had so much trouble with infection and you came along about then. I can't help with any of the other stuff since I am of the old generation. LOL. Hugs and prayers that all choices made are good ones. MK

Hey, Jules, congratulations on reaching 5 years. Can't help with your questions, however. Just wanted to take a happy dance step or two with you. Hugs, Lauri

Hi Jules, Haven't posted here in awhile (hello, everybody!) but I am in the same boat as you.  My five years on Tamoxifen are up this coming summer and my onc. wants me to go on letrozole but I am not menopausal.  I did Zoladex (similar to lupron) for two years after chemo and still had no periods for a year after I finished the shots, then all of a sudden they came back.  The Zoladex was pretty easy for me, I had a few hot flashes in the beginning but that was it.  They inject a little "pellet" into your belly and it takes just a minute of two. The main drawback of it for me was the expense (couple thousand dollars a shot!) and the inconvenience. I had to go every three months, but now they are not recommending the 3 month shot anymore and you would probably have to go every month.  My onc said I could do the shots again if I wanted but sounded like she would rather I have the ovaries out.  This is a tough decision for me, because I was trying to get pregnant when my cancer was found, and I think somewhere in the back of my head I still have not given up on that idea. I just met with a surgeon and he said I am a good candidate for having them removed laprascopically and recovery time should be about a week.  I'd be happy to talk further if you want to. Good luck with your decision!

Happy anniversary, Julie!!

Hope all this stuff gets settled the way you want it to be. I only have 4.5 more years of Tamoxifen, but am WAY past menopause. LOL Good luck!

Hugs,
Rita
