Every few months I come here to check the board. Yesterday I was reading about MK's DD Carolyn. Then I read backwards until I found some information re: MK's DH, Chuck.

It's taken me until today to be able to write a response. MK, I really wanted to write to you personally, but when I sent a "test" email to the address I have, it was returned.

When you get around to reading this, can you please send your email address? I'm still at my original from way back in the beginning of this board.

Thanks so much. Luci

Oh Luci it is good to see your name here. I don't check in as often as I should. I don't think I have your email without having to dig through paperwork that I don't even know where it is. I had to change computers and never did get back all the email addresses I had. At any rate my email is just like the old Juno one followed by a 1@wildblue.net. Meanwhile I will look for your email.

Chuck's cancer and death was very unexpected, it was a hard year. Carolyn's still hanging in amazingly. She has cancer in her liver now and is very jaundiced. Her tumor markers and liver enzymes were up yesterday. They have been giving her 1/2 doses of chemo because her blood count is so bad, but today the onc is going to try a full dose again. Last full dose totally wiped out her white counts and she ended up in the hospital for a few days. She still goes to work, tho she comes home when she feels bad. It is unbelieveable how strong she still is.

Take care Luci, hope you are doing well. I have been running back and forth to KY all spring and summer. Four grandchildren are getting married. Well, actually three more, one wedding is over. Becky, my son's daughter got married in May.

Love MK

I'm still counting on getting together for one of these trips, MK! Carolyn... what a fighter she is!

Bev, life just gets crazier and crazier. I will be in KY from 10th thru 18th. Actually I could meet you anytime during the 14, 15 or 16th. Ben gets married the 12th and we have rehersal dinner on the 11th. I arrive the 9th, so I have the 10th pretty free, too. I don't know about your hubby's status, but could you meet some day after work for dinner? Not sure where you are but would someplace like the waterfront in Cincy be close? You know appproximately where we are. After Ben's wedding, we have til Friday when we go to TN for his little sister's wedding. She was going to get married in October but they found a house and bought it and decided not to wait to move in. They wanted to elope but Dad and Mom talked them into a small wedding at home, so that is Sunday night the 20th. So rather than fly home and fly back I am staying the week in between. Then my next trip will be in July for a wedding on the 10th.

BUT

Carolyn had another bad spell this week. Her temperature was up for several days climbing from 100 to 104. She was vomiting and having nose bleeds, too. All of these she has been told to call the doctors office, but did she? Noooo she had an appointment set for Wed at 3:45 so she was waiting it out. Finally her son, daughter and husband got after her and she allowed them to take her at noon. She was severely dehyrated so they gave her fluids and antibiotic in IV. The doctor told her she could go home but she had to go to the hospital the next morning for 2 pts of blood and platelets, then she was to go to oncology for more fluid and antibiotics. So she was there by 8 am driving herself, she would not let anyone else take her. She got home at 7:30 last night, then had to go back today for more fluid and antibiotics. I have not heard a word yet today. I am sure she drove herself again, and I am not talking about a quick drive a few miles, it is 30 miles and heavy traffic in the rush hour period. I'm sure this stubborness is what has kept her alive so long, but it is frustrating for those of us who want to help her.

Hugs, MK

Oh, MK! I'm sure you are right about Carolyn's stubborn streak, but it does make it hard to help her, doesn't it. My hubby. He's a day to day thing, but typically nothing that would keep me from meeting up with you! I'll check my work calendar later and see if I have to work late any of those days, and we'll definitely work something out. Our latest is that he has shingles, probably as a result of the stress his poor old body has been under. I took him to the doctor, and they put his on Valtrex, which I expected, and then added Neurotin to his mix of meds for the neuropathic pain. I got home from work last Friday evening, and he couldn't get out of his chair, his speech was almost incoherent, and he was hallucinating. I might have thought it was a stroke, except for the hallucinations. I called the doctor's office and they assured me that, if it was the Neurontin, he should be doing better the next day if he didn't take any more of it. So I emptied his pockets and put the pills us so he wouldn't accidentally take any more. The next day was significantly better. He now has a note in his chart, at my insistence: "No more drugs that F&*# with Randy's brain chemistry." I can handle a lot, but crazy is not something I deal with well! LOL!

Back at you soon with my schedule!
Hugs...

Strange I take Neurotinen every day, for diabetic neuropathy. I read about its side effects but it hasn't bothered me so far. Keeping my fingers crossed. Hope I get to see you, but if not there is still October's trip. I have a wedding again in July but since it is Chris's son's wedding I can hardly expect her to drive me around. I will be staying at a motel by the airport along with the rest of the family. Will keep in touch. Hugs MK

Hi Luci, great to hear from you!

MK, not so great to read your news though, I cannot imagine what you are dealing with. You are one tough cookie, easy to see where Carolyn get's her strength from too! You're in my thoughts, although I do not check here too often, I do think of you and your family.

Lori
