I just got a call from the diagnostic center where I will be having the ct scans on Thursday. I am allergic to the iodine dye they inject me with so I have to be on pre-meds for 24 hours before the test. They always call to update my meds and they said my test started at 9:30.
I mentioned that nuclear medicine would be injecting me with their radioactive stuff at 8:00, send me to them, then I would go back at 11:00 for their test. The nurse that had called me could not  believe that they would schedule two tests for the same day especially since I am allergic to one of them. She kept me on hold while she checked with the radiation techs.
According to her, there will NOT be a bone scan that day or they won't be doing their scans that same day, but one of them has to change. She mentioned Friday morning but I told her that I have another appointment and I cannot cancel it. No option there.
You will probably think that I am nuts but, I started taking a daily vitamin pack for diabetics put out by Nature Made. Something in those vitamins, and I know that it is NOT calcium, is making my fingernails grow. All my life, I have had paper-thin nails which didn't bother me because they didn't interfer with playing the piano. Now these things are hard as a rock and my Fri appointment is for my second manicure in my whole life and I really enjoyed the first one and these things are too long again. Would anyone give up a manicure for a radioactive bone scan? I think not.
So, my tests will happen when they happen. I'm not going to let them upset me. I questioned their scheduling when they did it and I'll call the onc's nurse tomorrow and mention it to her.  Ho-hum, I am getting bored by this whole scans thing. I think I'll just sit back and watch my fingernails grow.
Love, Jo-Ann

I just bought a brand new pink feather boa. When and where do I wear it and did I mention that I am seriously allergic to feathers? Ok, so I will be the one on Benadryl sitting in a corner worrying about you getting your fingernails done or watching them grow? Cool! (Just don't bring the feathers!)

Hey! If I talk to your nurse about the scans and schedule them could you talk to my eye doctor and get me new glasses? We could both use Bendryl and then who cares? (just kidding!)

I love you, too, Annette.
Cathy, I got a 10pm call tonight from another nurse. She said they've reviewed it and they WILL run both scans the same day. She was more concerned that, having taken Benedryl there, I would be driving myself home. Happens every year.
I'm allergic to feathers, too, so I won't be wearing my boa to the scans. Isn't it amazing, though, that when we're on the PCE, we're not allergic to anything?
So, I'll call your eye dr and have your new glasses taken care of. Then I suggest we both have something cold that contains tequila and we can both forget about all of this. LOL
Love, Jo-Ann

I just love the board this morning. I want to thank you. Started my day off with a smile. You have no idea how much I love to see fingernails become so important. This has to be a good sign. Peace will be there for your tests and I might even run it by the ladies and see if they want to come get their nails done also. Hope this nail salon is big and she will need lots of shades of pink to match our boas. I noticed we do not all have the same color pink. What do you think ladies? Capt. Lemonz is on stand by. After all I know what is important also. Tee Hee and lots of love.

I'm for the manicure, pooh to the scans, too. Beautiful nails are such a joy to look at. You do what makes YOU happy, my friend, the scans will still be there next week. Sending you special hugs, Luci

Posted 1/12/2005 12:23 PM (GMT -6) glad that you are getting the manicure !...that is wonderful....

I have had a bone scan and a CT scan on the same day numerous times. Glad they rethought that.....
makes alot of sense doing them together.

Can I have the name of that vitamin pack...?? I have crummy nails and diabetes so maybe
it would work for me.

Love ya

Oh Jo-Ann, you always make me smile! Good for you not cancelling that nail appointment! After all we need to do special things for us! As far as tequila goes, make mine with salt! I will try to keep my feathers away from you and Cathy.

Jo-Ann, I'm so glad you have your priorities in order!!! There is nothing like a manicure to lift your spirits. And nothing like a day at the hospital to set your teeth on edge.

You go, girl!!! What shall it be? French tips? Or your signature red???

Love you, my friend.
