 Hi Ladies,
I'm wondering if anyone else has had a difference in path reports from the first biopsy and surgery? Two different hosp. were involved in mine. For my intial biopsy I was told grade3, invasive, her2neu3+, er/pr+.Now I checked this with the surgeon more than once being unable to believe any of this. So, today I had my first onc. appt., and recheck with my surgeon. The oncologist tells me the results from my surgery came back grade3, invasive, her2neu-, and only pr+.Has anyone else had this expierence? I'm more than a little confused as to how two hospitals got two different results.

Michelle, I would take the slides to another provider for another opinion. Actually, have you gotten a copy of the path report? Maybe one of your docs read it wrong to you, whoch would also be concerning. Either way, the treatment is likely to be the same at this point, but it is still important to get a definitive. Getting a copy of the part report would be really good, for your records.

I agree with Lori. I would get copies of both path reports. You have the right to have your reports. If they do actually say the opposite, I would tell the doctors that you are very concerned with the confusion and demand that they retest and make them right. As I understand it, tissue is saved from pathology labs and kept for a period of time. Did you question the second doctor and tell him that you understood the test to be different? He should want to make sure it was correct, also. You should not have to pay for retesting this way. Please get it straightened out and let us know We care. Hugs, MK

You can also have the slides from the first surgery sent to the pathologist who read the slides from the second surgery. Once there is a discrepancy in the reports, it may be helpful to have the same set of eyes reviewing both sets of slides. You can ask your oncologist about this and he can arrange to have this done. There should be no additional cost to you, if this was already covered by your insurance.

Thanks for your replys ladies. It has taken me a some work, but I believe I finally got them to reread my original slides from the first hospital. They want me to accept the fact that they are a cancer hospital , and thier testing is superior to that of the first hospital. This has really made me uncomfortable about the tx. Im going to get.I get the feeling they believe I should just accept thier explanation, and move on. Anyways I hope this will now set my mind at ease.

Michelle-
You can always take them to another hospital for another opinion....
My original path report came from Providence, and it mentioned that there were some traits that looked like medullary carcinoma, but that it looked more like ductal. U of M confirmed that it was ductal. When I spoke to my rad onc about it, who was on staff at both facilities, he said that if Providence had a question, THEY would send it to U of M to be read.... so maybe it is true, that they really are the experts in the area?

Anyway, don't just accept their word unless you feel comfortable.
