Pathology report question

Hello,i got the report from one of my mastectomy`s.The surgeon said everything looked good but one part says"The lymph node does contain a rare multinucleate cell (possible megakaryocyte).Levels obtained on block A6".Can someone interpet this for me.The doctor said they didnt find anything,so why does it say this in the report,Does it mean anything? Hey, Tammy. Beats me, but I do know that the location of this result was on block A6. Try googling breast cancer with these words under the advanced search. Maybe that will help. Sounds good to me so far.

Juju is right....try going to webmd or google and putting in multinucleate cell or megakaryocyte.... Frayda is an expert in histology, she'll have answers if she sees this post....

Having a single cell found in a pathology specimen is not very significant, especially since its appearence is questionable. A megakaryocyte is a speicalized blood cell involved in making platelets. A more common multinucleated cell that is normally found in connective tissue is called a macrophage. A lymph node is a specialized connective tissue.  I think the mention of this cell was just an observation, not really influencing the diagnosis.  Enjoy your otherwise good news! Hugs, Frayda
