Sorry to sound so trivial with all the problems everyone seems to be having, but one lid is losing lashes. I have not been  wearing mascara -- only lash conditioner. I have worn mascara a couple of times on important occassions. Anyone have an idea how I can really condition these lashes?

Losing eyelashes is so much worse than the hair thing, isn't it?  I just started wearing eyeliner and gave up on trying to do anything with the lashes.  I never feel "dressed" until the mascara is on!  I feel for you, sweetie!

Judy, I never lost all my lashes at once. I noticed that they thinned out a lot..and one day I noticed that there were a couple long ones that just fell out, but I had a full lid of lashes behind it...they just had not yet grown in. So by the time the last ones fell out, I had gone a full cycle of lashes! I do not think conditioning them will help, it has to do with the growth process. It gets interrupted with chemo, so if they are going to fall out, I don't think you can stop them.

The others, like Bev, eill have great advice to help you get by. You may contact American Cancer Society to see about their Look Good Feel Better class. It is free, and they offer tips on makeup and beauty issues during chemo.

Hang in there Judy!

I haven't lost mine (I have had 3 chemos). My bottom ones may have thinned out just a little. How many treatments have you had?

Hi, Katt. I had 4 A/C and lost my lashes after my first of 12 weekly Taxol treatments. They came back very thin and I lost them again. They started back for the last time in August and were full. Now they are very thin again on one side. My last chemo was June 27. I am at a loss.

Judy

I kept all of my lashes and brows through A/C but as soon as I started Taxol they have fallen out alot. I have none on the bottom and just a few in the center of both eyes. I hate this because it makes me look wierd and sleepy all the time, at least with my hair I can wear a wig. I thought about false lashes but dont know. I will be done with Taxol on Dec 19. I cant wait for my hair to start to grow again. Why oh why oh why does this disease have to make us feel so awful about our looks. I have always had nice lashes and very expresive eyes now I feel very fugly I just dont feel attractive like I used to. Oh well this too will pass. Sorry you are going through this again.
Hugs:)

Drat, I had hoped that since I've done 3 A/C and still have my eyelashes and eyebrows that they would stick around for the full regimen, but they will probably fall out after my first Taxol?? Why cant my nose hairs fall out instead??? Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Bernadette - Wow. you've gone through your treatments so quickly!! I hope you are feeling ok, and that your back isnt bothering you too much.Have you found the Taxol to be a bit easier than the A/C? By the time you finish your taxol I'll only just be beginning it. i cant wait for all of this to be over.

Happy thanksgiving everyone.

Oh, Chantry, why did you say that about nose hairs? I did lose mine. That is why I have been having a drippy nose constantly since January. Allergies, I thought, had never gone away since Spring. Then, someone told me about nose hairs and sure enough, I looked and they were gone. Only just now beginning to come back, but I still have a slightly drippy nose even though I am on allergy medicine and nose spray.

Chantry & Judy

I felt so lucky to have my lashes and brows through my Ac but as soon as I started Taxol they started falling out. I remember Judy saying that hers started falling out as soon as she started Taxol and I thought maybe mine would make it but they didnt.

My nose hairs are gone too and my nose drips constantly. I have allergies too so that does not help matters any.

My treatments are a breeze now I go once a week and really other than the first week I had some body aches and the problem with my back but that is gone now too. I dont have any nausea or aches anymore. I had my 3rd treatment on Monday and so far nothing I feel great.....finally. Im so tired of feeling sick and achhy so this is a nice change. So Chantry there is a light at the end of the tunnell. I hope the rest of the treatments will be as easy. I cant believe I will be done Dec 19th!!!!!! It really has gone by fast. I cant believe that you have already done 3 AC that went by fast too. Are you scheduled for 8 Taxol? I hope the rest is a breeze for you too.
Hugs:)

LOL...I was glad to lose the nose hairs, but darn it...I never totally lost leg hair! I shaved throughout all of chemo...I found that sort of ironic!

I'm confused with the Taxol. What is that? Is that something they added to your chemo? I forgot what I'm getting. It's written down somewhere. I lost my nose hairs too. No armpit hair, no hair below my knees, but yet I have this lot of hair that I have alwyas had on the back of my thighs, it's still there!!! The place I would love to lose it. And of course down below.

The Taxol is just another chemo drug Im sure you will have it too. I was very glad to loose the armpit hairs and that was after the first treatment....it took longer to loose the rest of them. Does your nose run constantly? mine does and it drives me nuts.

Lori

I cant believe that you still had to shave...yuk I have a couple strays but not enough to worry with. I hate shaving my legs, the underarms are not so bad. I really enjoy not shaving and not having to do my hair it makes getting ready much faster. How are the houses doing?? I hope all is done quickly for you.

Bernadette, my nose drips, too. I finally went to ENT and he prescribed Singular and Flonase spray. It has helped, but I still have a little problem. As for hair, it ALL came back thicker - just losing lashes again.

I already take allergy medicine but it does not help the drippy nose.
My eyelashes are coming out very fast now, Im getting ready for work and tried to put some mascara on and all it did was pull my lashes out. I have very few now. I guess I wont be able to totally cover the fact that I have cancer anymore.

Well, heck. It appears that my brows are now thinning as well.

Bernadette, try using a liquid eye liner, not black, close to the place of the lashes as possible. Use lightly on the lower lid. This helped me a lot to camoflage the loss of lashes. If you do not wear glasses, try some fake ones.

Well even though I still have nose hairs, the nose is still dripping. So I'd rather no have to pluck 'em (those suckers sting coming out!!). I'm still shaving the legs, but not the armpits! Is there any logic to that! Oh, and btw, I got my period last week, so I'M NOT IN MENOPAUSE!!!!!!!(at least, not yet) YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!

Bernadette - I will be having 4 taxols, each three weeks apart. So I wont be done chemo until February. Bleck. We were supposed to go down to Florida to visit with DH's parents (they go down each year), but with the chemo, I'm afraid of going too far away from my hospital.
Has anyone here travelled while going through chemo? I know it's not a smart thing to do - especially in a plane because of the confined space - but any insights would be nice to hear.

Just enjoying the first snowfall of the year. Christmas is coming!!

Chantry, ask the doc about travel. I was told not to travel during the time of low counts, but I did travel via plane after chemo and before rads. I had my onc's permission.

For brows, when mine got lighter, I took a brow filler, cake/ powder, and just brushed it on. It helped darken the area without seeing the line.

Judy,
Please don't say your sorry we all have feeling and its hard even when we know that there is someone worse off we still can't help how we feel. This is hard as we all know. When I lost mine I just did not wear mascara so they would not fall out as fast. But in the end they all fell out and so I used a grey color shadow just above on my lid and it did help some. I pray this time will fly by for you.

As careful as I was it was not enough I lost all of my brows and my lashes. My eye lashes never fell out until after my 7th Taxol treatment. I just did not think that was fair. My eyes just don't look good until the mascara goes on so that was very hard for me. No one would even know all that had happened if they didn't know me.
Take care

Chantry, Lori Donna & Judy

I really hate this hair loss thing, it was bad enough to loose my hair on my head but you can hide that. I decided to buy some false eyelashes because I hate the way I look right now. It sure does not help your self esteem when you feel ugly. I will keep you posted on how they look. Did any of you try that?

Chantry you are only scheduled for 4 Taxol treatments, and 3 weeks apart. Iam scheduled for 8 and they are every week. I guess every Dr is different.

Hey on a different note I was told I would go through menopause too but I have not had any signs of it yet. I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago but I still have my ovaries. I was reading that women who are ER/PR positive should not have their ovaries. I dont remember if my Dr knows about the ovaries or not. Hopefully someone will have an answer to this.

Hi All

I bought the false eyelashes, the smallest pair that they had......I tried to put them on and I think you have to be a rocket scientist to be able to get them on straight. I looked like a sickly caterpiller died on my eyelids!! I guess I was meant to go through this lash-less. Anyone else have better luck with them?

Bernadette, I did not use false eyelashes. My onc advised me not to do so because of eye infections. I am glad I did not because I am had a lot of styes during treatment and that could have really caused infection problems. I bought a liquid eyeliner and a much lighter eyebrow pencil for my brows. When I lost all brows, I got a brow stencil from Sally's Beauty Supply. It helped.  I was without lashes and brows for approx 4 months.  Now they are going again, but I decided today that I would look at this positively. Chemo kills rapidly dividing cells - i.e. cancer and hair. I have convinced myself today that somewhere in my body the chemo is still working after 4 1/2 months and is still searching out bad cancer cells. Go, guys, go!!!!!

Lots of love and good luck

Thanks for the advice on the eye treatments I will have to try those out. I looked for some liquid eyeliner and could not find any. I will have to look again. That is a good way to look at the hair loss that the chemo is still doing its job, I jst hate to see you go through it again. I have had lots of styes too I figured it was because of my lashes falling out.

Bernadette, it is because the follicules are clogged. You should try to massage them with your ring finger -- lower and upper with a rolling motion. This is supposed to keep them unclogged. As for liquid eye liner, I use Estee Lauder makeup most of the time, but any liquid liner, except for black which is too harsh, will do.
