It seems like every Christmas there is someone that gives a really strange gift. This year it was my mother's gifts that she gave. My dd and sil just built a new home this spring. It is in a subdivision that has NO trees. In fact, they just sodded their front lawn and seeded their back lawn this fall. So what does my mother give to my preppy sil? A gadget that she ordered from QVC (she is a QVC junkie) that picks up leaves out of the yard. Then she give him this camouflage ball hat that you put batteries in the front and there is a light. He does NOT hunt and does NOT ever wear anything that is camouflage. Now this hat, when you turn the light on, you have to push on the light, which is right where the batteries are, which in turn leaves a big red spot on your head. We all laughed until we cried but of course my dear mother didn't realize that we were laughing at the gifts. You can imagine what the rest of us received.

How about the rest of you? Want to share those wonderful gift stories w/ us?

Deb

Ever since I had major surgery and got heavier I have not been able to wear my wedding band. My grand daughter works in a jewelry store and when she was here one night for dinner before Christmas my husband said something about not knowing what to get me. I suggested a new ring in the size I can wear and he could have her help him, so that is what I got. It is very much like the old one that is 48 years old. We paid only $20 for it, this one was considerably more due to inflation. LOL It is very comfortable and I have not taken it off, as I never did my old one until it got too tight. The other gift my husband got me was a little different. It is a Black and Decker storm station. It has all the things you need if the electricity would go out. A flashlight, a radio for storm alerts, a place to plug in cell phones to recharge and a couple other features I can't think of right now. The kids got me all comfort gifts, bath stuff, a throw, etc. Then I got a couple of things to work with, one of those rechargable Bissel like sweepers to clean up little messes. OK Deb what did your mother get YOU? Hugs MK

I have to start at the beginning and explain I have a saying that means no chance. If I told my kids NO... they still tried. If I said ...I will when pigs fly! They knew they had no shot. I had not realized I have used this so much that I got a card from one of our members here, with a flying pig on it. I loved it so much it has a place of honor on top of my computer cabinet. Christmas I went up to my sons and I could see by the devilish gleam in his eye that I was in for something ornery. I open the box and what did I get? A pig with wings and it flies around the room on a string. All I heard after I stopped laughing was" Ok mom now you know all those things you promised when pigs fly.... Well pay up.
How wonderful it would be to see Angels where there are only clouds. How sad it would be to see clouds where there are Angels.

Oh Joyce, I love it!!!! I would love to see your flying pig. Did he go to Cincinnati to get it? Please have Vic snap a picture of you whirling that thing around!!!!

Bernadette, the only problem with the storm station is that it can't keep the computer running. LOL. We don't have many outages here, but I think he is planning ahead. He wants to move out in the country a state or two north of here. I am resisting.

I love the flying pig. I agree w/ MK, I have to see a pic of that! Ok, one of the gifts that my mom gave me, are you ready? Are you sure that you are ready??? The Christmas stocking that she made for my ex when we were married. I have been divorced since 1982! I asked her what the heck I was suppose to do w/ it? Her comment...Hang it up! She also gave me (and my db as well) this chicken thing that is suppose to poach eggs. Neither of us like poached eggs plus it is just down right ugly!!!! I am telling you, this woman is not all there. roflmao. After I hear some more of your stories, I will tell you some of the other wonderful gifts that she gave!

Laughing...Deb

Hi Deb.  There should be a warning label for Senior Citizens on anything with new technology.  One of my dear sons bought us a dvd recorder/player last Christmas (we're still trying to figure it out so I guess it can count as a this year also).  When we "try" and play a dvd we have the two remotes... we keep pushing buttons and watching a blue screen for a while... push more buttons... by some miracle when the picture does come on we don't know how or what we did.  We recorded a movie once but did something wrong as it shows up as six separate movies instead of one... I think DH hit the pause button. We also seem to be having a problem turning off the dvd recorder/player after the dvd is removed, so now I just pull out the plug.

So, if you happen to see a flying object in the shape of a remote control go flying by... it's just from us at the end of our rope.   Hugs, Libby

Friends are God's way of taking really good care of us.

Well ladies I will have to take a picture of this pig and send it to someone more computer literate than I am. When I can post a picture, you truly will be seeing pigs fly. LOL Oh, that reminds me, I notice that the card queen did not want to take a bow for the flying pig card. Gee I wonder if that gives who it was away? One of the other children gave us a digital camera and told me how easy this was going to be now....tee hee. Have you seen the commercial with the kid in the air and they can not get him out? That would be the fate of my pig if I did not take it with my old reliable. I really hope some of you add to the list. This was a great idea.
Love and Hugs and Happy New Year to all. Joyce
