Hello ladies,

Unfortunately, another wonderful lady has been dx with bc. Our friend for many, many years with a 5-y.o. son has just found out she has bc and is trying to find out info on some oncologists in the Rochester, NY area that her surgeon has recommended. If anyone has any info at all, good or not so good on these oncos, I would appreciate hearing (you can always send me an email directly to Lmmackey@aol.com). Barb is very scared and confused, as we all remember all too well, and I'm going to do what I can to help.

Thanks in advance!!!! ---Laure'

The docs in NY that she's considering are:

Pluta Family Cancer Center in Henrietta - Dr. Yarnick
Highland - Brian Smith
Strong - Jennifer Greggs, Michelle Shane

Tell your friend Barb that I am sorry she has to be looking for this kind of info. I have heard good things about Strong, a friend was consulting with them for her treatments and since it was the same that they would do here, she stayed here it was easier. We are about 2 hours from Rochester. We had taken my father-in-law to highland years ago, but the world of cancer is so much different now then 20 years ago. Where is your friend located? I will see if I can find out anything about the Dr. themselves. I will keep your friend in my prayers.

I need to go lay down, I had my right breast reduction done on Mon. I was allergic to something they gave me so I am still covered in a rash. Was sick from what ever it was but feeling better now. Can't wait to see the breast tomorrow when Dr. takes the bandages off. Tired but can't wait.
Blessings to your friend

Thanks, Donna. REST!!! I'm sorry you're feeling so poorly! Thanks for the note, and the offer of finding more info. That would really be great!!! She's just now even able to speak about the whole thing, even though she is one of the most articulate, funny person I have ever met!

She lives in Honeoye Falls, and has chosen Dr. Caldwell as her surgeon for the lumpectomy at least. HF is not too far from Canandaigua, Victor, Geneseo, and Rochester is the closest large city. Syracuse and Buffalo are the next two major cities.

Great quote in answer to her surgeon's question, she said, "I do not want to preserve my breast I want to preserve my life." She's a great gal! Thanks for your help, Donna.

Take it easy and rest!!!!

L&H,
Laure'

Strong is a good place to go. Hearing good things, this is where my friend was doing her consult and was told that our cancer center was doing the standard treatment and that it the same thing they would do if she went up there. I would think the cancer center would also be a good place but have not found out anything out about the place.
If there is anything that I can do to help give me a yell I usally read on here every day. I wish your friend an easy journey and will keep her in my prayers.
I thought I could not wait to see how the breast looked well I should have waited. It looks gross, I know this will get better with each passing day but for now I'm finding myself crying and in pain and not having a lot of fun. I really do not mean to be cranky so I think I will say good night and God Bless your dear friend.
Love Donna

I'll ask my onc, but we're way down from there.  I'll get back to you.

Judy,
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. Its just for some reason I have been crying a lot maybe I need to give myself time it will just be a week tomorrow. Trying to stop taking the pain meds but I am still getting sharp pain in the nipple. I will be going back to work Tuesday so I will stay busy and should start feeling better. I am meeting with a new friend to celebrate both of our birthdays she is now 49 and I hit the big 50 but thanking God every day for being here to celebrate. Loving everyday with my grandkids.
When were you dx? Are you doing well? I try to keep everyones stories straight but its hard.
Need to go. Take care and stay well.
