I went in for an exam yesterday, my doctor told me that I have "focal thickening", does anyone know exactually what that is, and any websites I can check that out on?  I go next week for an ultrasound, and mammo.  Thanks!

I have never heard that terminology, but an ultrasound and mammogram will certainly give some information to the doctor to help him/her decide whether to test further or not. There are many websites about breast cancer, but at this point you would only cause yourself to worry more by reading them. My advice is not to worry until you know you have something to worry about. It seems to me your doctor is taking appropriate steps to help you. Be sure to let us know about your mammogram and US. If you have any questions about them maybe we can help more. Today was a pretty slow day here...... Hugs MK

Welcome, hope everythings goes well for you and wish you luck

focal thickening may not mean anything. It just means your has thicker tissue or dense tissue as doctors say in on area or spot. That is normal on a mammo is your in your 20s to 35 but as we get older our tissue in our breast thin out. Sometimes if the see a denser tissue in one spot and not were else they look at it closer. I had my first mammo after my lympectomy a few months ago and on the cancer free breast the tissue was denser in on spot they did another mammo and found out the first mammo they hadn't flattened my breast enough and so the tissue was over lapped once they stretched it out more the spot went away. so good luck but that doesn't always mean anything just means they need to check it out more. Let us know how it turns out and what they find out k. Its hard cause when they say they see something it makes our mind whirl gosh when they had to repeat the mammo that day I was so scared until they told me results of second mammo, wish you all the luck in the world
