My MIL had her breast removed and will be going for radiation treatments.  The Radiologist's office phoned and said in preparation she will have 2 appointments before they begin.  One she mentioned something about chest Casting, and the other she mentioned fitting of a shell and markings.  What does all this mean?
I could just phone her back, but the conversation went so quickly that I didn't think of asking her to explain.

This is an excellent site for information on radiation. It may not specificially address your situation, but may offer other places to go for more. In any case, this is a good overview and has helpful information you may want to pass along to your MIL. Lauri

Some places make a mold cast of your body to keep you in an exact position.  I saw them at my rad oncs treatment room.  I would think that's what they are talking about, however, I've never heard of it being done for bc patients.  That's not to say it's not possible.  Markings may mean little tatto dots that they use to line you up right for the treatment.  That's what I had.  They take x-rays, also, to make sure you are in just the right position.  I had 2 appointments with the rad onc/rad therapist before my treatments began.  I also had a CT prior to the treatment starting.  As a matter of fact, tomorrow will be 1 year since my very first rad treatment.  My, how time flies!

Kathy, I asked the nurse and the cast is a custom made fiberglass mold to keep her in one place while she is having radiation. My SIL said she also read about it the cast, in the information booklets about radiation that she got from the Cancer Clinic. . I know about the markings. Thanks Lauri and Kathy for the information. .
