I am a 36 year old woman with fibrocystic breast disease.  I had a partial hysterectomy many years ago, so no longer have cyclic changes in my breasts.  2 weeks ago my breasts became hard and were extremely painful.  2 days ago I noticed a bruised like area under my right breast, and realized that the hair follicles on my breasts had become prominent.  They were never like this before.  I have had no changes in my nipples, except for some discharge out of the right one, which is strange for me, and my breasts are not warm and are not swollen.  Can the bruise and the nipple discharge be a sign of IBC?  I had a lump in my right breast years ago that was only found by a breast care specialist doing an ultrasound, the mammogram missed it.  I had it biopsied, and there was no cancer at the time.  Should I have this same lump biopsied again?  It is also on the right breast.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kristina, I have never had IBC but I do know you should see a Dr asap. I know that there are ladies here who have had IBC, maybe they will be posting soon. Please don't wait and take a chance. It could very well be nothing, or an infection or something else benign, but just get a Dr to look at it and let them decide. I am sending you positive thoughts and prayers that it is fine.
HUGS, Gail

Gail's right. You need a trip to the doctor's for diagnostic work. I have not had IBC either, but you might want to look for IBC information at www.imaginis.com. Lauri

Hi Kristina-sorry you are going through this stress right now....good chance it is nothing, but on the small chance it is something, best to get it checked out. Be your own best advocate...and keep us posted.

Hi Kristina, The one thing about IBC is it has no rules. One thing I have found that all of us have in common (that I know of) is the heat that comes from it.  Mine was orange and purple with a few tints of yellow and red. I also had a skin texture change. These things combined finally made the doctors realize even though my mammo was fine I had a problem. It took all of this to make them realize I was right. March to October this fight went on. IBC is one of the BC diseases that have had less research that the others because its not as common.  I was given a new treatment at the time and I have been doing very well. Please remember IBC really has no set standard of rules. I personally think any question and you should run not walk to the phone and make that appointment. Best of wishes, Joyce
