I got my results back from the genetic testing and I came up negative. Im very happy about this because I have 5 sisters and I was very worried about them getting this terrible disease. I'm not sure how I really feel about getting the results. My Dr does not put alot of stock in the test for the person getting the test but thinks it is a great tool for family members.

As far as everything else Im feeling much better, completley off the steroids now.

Glad you are feeling better and what a relief that you will not be worried about your sisters.

Hugs,

I am glad to hear this news.  Now you can stop worrying about your sisters.  I never really thought about doing the test myself.  Glad you are feeling better, too.

Bernadette,   Did you get testing for the BRCA1,2 gene mutation?  Have you spoken with a genetic counselor?  Your sisters have a 50-50% chance of being positive.  If you have children, they are negative.  Had you been positive, they would have had a 50-50 chance too.   My best to you.

When I went, there were three possibilities:  definately present, definately not present and origin of unknown determination.  I'm adopted, so the test was supposed to be helpful in determining risks for me and my family.

my results were origin of unknown determination.......Like.......Ya!  I didn't know that already?????

several thousand dollars later, here I am with the same info I had.  (It was barely covered).

Mine was the same, Im not putting a whole lot of stock in the test. Because negative does not mean you won't get cancer again and positive does not mean you will get it again. So either way I try not to worry about it coming back.

I don't seem to understand - is everyone here talking about the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic test?
