I've noticed that several of the newer people have been receiving 5-FU again, which had fallen out of favor for awhile when the taxanes appeared and a study showed that AC combined with Taxotere was more effective than FAC (which is what I had in the days before the taxanes were available).
Anyone know when or why they are starting to add the 5-FU back in to the regimen again?
Just curious.

I haven't heard why it's coming back. I thought they had found other drugs that didn't just knock you to the ground. I've had it and won't ever forget it. I don't want to scare anyone but it's a rough course of chemo.

If you find out why, please let me know.

Love you, Jo-Ann

Oh My,

I sure do remember those 5-FU days! But hey, they saved my life and have given me many years of living a full and rewarding life.

I was one of the lucky ones and didn't lose my hair when I took it.

Sorry Bev, I wasn't even aware of it coming back into the regimen again so can't help you out there.

Thinking of everyone that is going thru treatments right now and sending hugs to each and every one of you.

Hey guys, I had it also.  I think they have decided that it works!  Witness the four of us posting who are alive.  It's all still so frightening.  Not being a doctor/researcher, sometimes I just want to say "pick a side," you know?  My bc experience was one of the only times in my life where I just wanted someone who "knew" to tell me what to do.

I find all your comments about 5FU very encouraging.  This whole thing is very frightening but to read your stories is a great help.

OK the chemo is horrible, but in my case if I keep telling myself that it's working and doing its job then I feel much better.

Best wishes everyone and thank you.
