Hi all

I woke up Thursday morning to a very sore right breast, the one with cancer. I went to my oncologist and she put me on an IV of antibiotics and sent me home with more antibiotics. My breast has gotten worse it is swollen and so sore and hot to the touch. I have also been running a temerature of 100 all weekend. Has anyone else had any of these problems??? I have had a tough time sleeping because of all of the pain, I finally just went out to the recliner and slept there. I just was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Hi Bern, boy I am sorry you are having all this grief! I know you probably can't wait to get the surgery done...

I have no experience to relate to this, but I would definitely call the doctor today to discuss the worsening status.

Hang in there!

Bern: I would definitely call your dr first thing and let her know about the pain and the fever. Did they give you anything for pain? Have you tried hot compress? Sometimes this will help. Will they do the surgery if you have the infection. Wondering about the temp also. I had an infection after my mastectomy in the incesion area.

Hang in there my friend. Hopefully you will get this thing kicked and be ready for the surgery.

Gentle hugs...Deb

I'm so sorry you're having this problem.  Do call in the morning.  I'm waiting and praying for a pork chop bone..  Good luck.

I'm so sorry for your pain. Could this have turned into Inflammatory Breast cancer?

One or more of the following are Typical Symptoms of IBC:

  • Swelling, usually sudden, sometimes a cup size in a few days

  • Itching

  • Pink, red, or dark colored area (called erythema) sometimes with texture similar to the skin of an orange (called peau d'orange)

  • Ridges and thickened areas of the skin

  • What appears to be a bruise that does not go away

  • Nipple retraction

  • Nipple discharge, may or may not be bloody

  • Breast is warm to the touch

  • Breast pain (from a constant ache to stabbing pains)

  • Change in color and texture of the areola

Hi Bernadette, Yes I did. In fact, when I went to Barnes they thought it was inflammatory, but it turned out not to be. I was swollen, red and had an inverted nipple. It was also hot. It turned out OK. Just get help as soon as you can and get the best. Somehow I found the best. They are out there. I'll be sending prayers for you. Fortunately, I know someone. Love, Di

Hi Everyone

I just got back from another visit to the Dr, she gave me another IV of antibiotics and another prescription. I have to get this under control before my surgery next week.

I do have ALL of the symptoms of IBS but it is not, just more infiltrating ductal carcinoma just like last time. My nipple has been inverted for months now and I have discharge too. But I trust my Dr and she says it is not. I guess it won't matter after next Tuesday because that breast will be gone.

Di, what caused your breast to do that? Did they tell you it was just an infection? My Dr says it is an infection probably caused by a scratch. She said anything on the side where the lymph nodes were taken out can get an infection very easy.

Bernadette,

Man, you just can't get a break, can you?  I'm sorry you are in pain.  I had some swelling, but not too much pain after the lumpectomy.  I know you can't wait to get that surgery done and I think about you every day.
L & H,
Kathy
