and I say "my mom's been on me to ask you if I need a colonoscopy"  Mind you, I wasn't scheduled for- or recommended to have one, just mom was reading about colon cancer family history, breast cancer and risk.  She gets irrational when colon cancer comes up because My dad died of a melanoma that started in the liver (I still don't get how that happened, as melanoma is skin cancer, but that's what it was).  If you all recall, I'm adopted, a fact that she knows well, but she still thought I should ask.  As the past few months passed, with time, it turned into 'you probably need one so ASK'  She gets hysterical about this stuff.

ANYWAY...  I asked my onc about her thinking I needed one and he said "why, doesn't your mom like you? because YOU'RE ADOPTED so that takes care of the family history issue."  We joked about freud having a field day with this one and all that jazz.  I don't need one yet,  50 is still the magic number for that.

Anyway at 41, I don't need one for a few years yet, so sorry mom.  Just need a bone density in July to check for osteo.  He said he's going to his annual conference in 6 weeks.  He'll find out about dense breasts and what can be done about scanning them.  I mentioned the Dilon Scan I had, and it didn't sound like he had heard about it.

Mom's coming up tonight.  (Had to clean and listen to DH complain for days).  She's staying with Matthew while I go on a couple of trainings in forensic psych on Thurs and Friday.  The trainings are in (sigh) Newport, R.I.  Black Pearl Oysters here I come!!!  DH can enjoy the casino nearby.  Looking forward to that meal, though.  My absolute favorite restaurant in the world! Black Pearl right on McMillan Wharf.  It will be an early birthday gift.  on The 30th, I'll be 42, or 8 years away from a colonoscopy, whichever way you choose to look at it, LOL.

Oh, Ellen, this cracked me up! Sounds like you have a wonderful onc. But just to be the devil's advocate for your mom for a minute...does your gynocologist do the quick little smear for blood? Mine does. Of course, I have put off that appt for...almost 4 years now (break out the wet noodle...I deserve it), but 4 years ago, I know it was fine.

Take care. Enjoy 8 more years of colon virginity.

Hugs...

Yep, he has a phlebotomost draw the blood.  She did a good job and he said all was well as far as that went.  were you thinking of a specific blood test?  I think he does a cbc and looks for markers of some kind.  If anybody knows the significance of markers, I'd be interested in learning more about them.  and WHY haven't you had blood drawn in 4 years?  I figured we're cursed with that procedure at least annually for the duration!
