Hi all
Sorry I have not posted in a long time but I have had a tough time of it. I ran a temp for over a week and got infection in all of my drains and insisions. I have been on 2 different antibiotics, the first one did not seem to help at all. I was sent to the hospital for more tests by my PS and they did ex rays, ultra sound, blood tests and did cultures on my drains. My white blood count was off the chart and my liver enzymes were the same. My Dr has had a tough time treating me because of my other disease (sarcoidosis) it really puts a wrench in my healing. I had to have my drain put back into my new breast because I had fluid buildup on it. I was cleaning it and tore the stitch out so now I have to have it taped on my breast. And to make matters worse the tube comes out of the middle of my breast, try to go out in public with a tube hanging out of your boob!! Needless to say I have felt like s**t so going out has not been an issue. I feel good for a day or two and then I start feeling like crap again, I just want to feel good again.
I will admit this surgery has not been as easy as I thought it would be, not the pain that has been okay but just not being able to do as much and feeling bad. I had an outline of how I thought all of this would go and Im not on my schedule anymore, so much for my A type personality! I was hoping to be back to work this week but it looks like a little longer.
Sorry it has been so long since I posted I will try to post more soon.

Bernadette, I am so sorry you are going through all this. What a huge bummer! I recall others here over the years who have had these persistent infections with the drains and I totally feel for you. What a pain.... you are entitled to your pity party and I'll bring whatever you want....chocolate? WIne? Popcorn? A martini? Shopping?

Hang in there Bern, it sounds like you might be rounding the bend on this chapter...

Oh, Bernadette, I am so sorry you are having such a hard time.  It sounded like you were doing so well at first.  I wonder why the drains got infected?  I was lucky.  I didn't have any infections.  Why is the drain coming out the middle of your new booby, may I ask?  That sounds a bit odd.  Mine was just below and towards the outside.  I hope the doc gets this under control, so you can feel better.  It sure does suck not feeling well.
Hugs to you (((((((((Bern))))))))))))))))!
Happy Mother's Day!  (I hope you can enjoy it)

Oh Bernadette, I really feel for you. I am one who fought infections for a whole year. I wore an IV antibiotic hook up from August to March. It is a long story but my infection was caused by sutures that were contaminated from the factory. Are you seeing an infectious disease doctor? My PS had one taking care of me right away. I know how bad you feel and I know coming here for a pity party does help some, so feel free to post anytime. A suggestion for you, get copies of your reports and know the infection bacteria and what medicines you are on and keep records. You never know in the future what you might need to know. Hugs, prayers, and all it takes to make you feel better again. MK

I hope you feel well very soon. At times it feels like nothing can be easy and quick.  There can be so many complications especially with those nasty drains. I was so happy to get rid of the two I had.  The PS finally removed the last one because my skin around the drain line was infected.  I really forget the emotions of the discomfort and inconveniences me and my family went through during that time.  It will be over soon and your won't really remember either.  You will feel and look great.

Oh, Bernadette, I'm sorry to hear about all the problems. Our bodies seem to have their own timetables, and to heck with the ones we try to impose on them!

Have they found an antibiotic that works yet? Hope so.

You don't hurry yourself back to work. There's nothing you could be doing that is more important than healing right now. So take it easy on yourself! Type A is not always a good thing to be, although I've never met a Type A who agreed with that!

Love and hugs, sweetie.

{{{{{gentle hugs}}}}}} I'm sorry you feel so bad. I hope you'll feel better and better with each day and soon be well. Take it easy and get plenty of rest. Please don't rush going back to work, give your body all the help it needs. Take care sweetie.

I don't believe in pity parties.  If you feel like crap, you do, that's all there is to it.  You'll be bouncing along at some point, as long as you can still see a light at the end, hun.  Please let us help with that.  You'll be ok soon I hope.  I still detect a sence of humor in your post, so I'm guessing you're coping some.  Don't beat yourself up about feeling like crap, though.  It's totally allowed!!!!!!
Hope the "bouncing" remark wasn't lost on ya.  Asked a co-worker-therapist if it was a bad idea to use the term under the circumstances, he cringed, so I'm thinking it was ok!!!!!!!

Sorry you're not feeling as well as you thought you may be. Big {{{HUGS}}} to you but soft ones. Just take it easy and let yourself heal. Dont be trying to walk the dog and doing the normal things you would that would be strenuous.

I am SO sorry that you aren't doing very well. You were superwoman there for awhile and you will be again. Hang in there and take it easy on yourself. I know it's hard to be idle but your body needs to heal. Just relax and cuddle those doggies of yours. You have been to H--- and back so you have a right to have a pity party. I agree with Lori. Let's eat chocolate, drink margaritas and relax. Sending good wishes and happy thoughts your way.

Hi All

Thanks everyone for all of the posts, I soooo appreciate the encouragement. Im finally starting to feel human again and my stomach is going down again too. If you have read my other post you will see I have had yet another problem!

To all of you that suggested chocolate, no thanks I dont care for it but a margarita, chips and salsa will do. Since my stomach has been bloated most food does not sound good. My hubby calls before he comes home to find out what I will eat that day and he goes and gets it. Today I was craving tuna sandwich with pickle and BBQ chips so that is what I had! I have had some wierd cravings beef jerkey, margaritas, potato soup, cheesecorn, chips and salsa do you see a trend here???? Salty foods. For 3 days before this all I ate was peaches and toast so I gues Im branching out some. For those of you who have had this surgery did you loose your appitite? I have a tough time eating very much at all.

I haven't had the surgeries you have had, but I did have an excisional biopsy and since then I've had a hard time eating.   I don't know if it has to do with the biopsy or with my other medical issues, the medications, the worry, or just bodily changes.
I do know I've lost about ten pounds now and I'm around 96-98 pounds now and I was told the other day that I had better force myself to eat and to try and get my weight up (the nurse practioner suggested I try for about 110 pounds which sure got a raised eyebrow from me!), but she suggested it because she said if I get very sick, (sicker than I am currently) that I would need that extra weight and strength to help me get through whatever I have to face as far as fighting off and coping with the possible sickness or whatever it is that might come down the line next.
So....... I'm in the process of looking around for good, comforting, palatable, filling, weight gaining things I can find to eat.  Being a vegan, this does complicate things a little bit, but I know that I could do better in the finding recipies and things I can eat that will help me in this weight gaining thing.
I hope you do the same and find good things to eat and get busy eating them.  :)
Best wishes and good vibes.

I wish I could say that I have the same problem as you but I need to loose some more weight, I think the last time I weighed 100 was in grade school. I feel for you though, I have a friend who can't gain no matter what she does and it is alot of trouble for her. I think when you get over the shock of all of this and get a little more settled you will gain again. Todya Im craving pistacios so I might need to run to the store LOL.

Take care
