I have been measuring and loging the drains my wife has. Both were running about 15 to 20 CCs untill yesterday. One of them was less and the other went to 65 CCs and looked more like blood than drainage. It is less this morning but still more than the other side. Is this normal or should I worry ? I mean should I worry more than I am worried now ?

I had five drains, but I didn't track the amounts from them.  If it concerns you, I would call the doctor's office and just check if it is considered normal.

Why oh why do we have to deal with these drains.  Your question should be taken care of by pressing the buzzer in a hospital bed.  and seen by your doc on his rounds.  Sorry, I just feel strongly about this!

I agree with Bev.  Calling the doctor is the best way to ease the worry.  How long have the drains been in?

Geeez coopfesta, you just dont get the big picture here. Insurance companies cant use the money they get on silly things like sick people. Do you know how much it costs for all the condos, summer homes , luxury vehicles, yachts and golf clubs.. Plus they have their hands full raising children that turn out as well as say,,Paris Hilton..
By the way, the drains are slowing down again and all looks like it should. Doc will look at them early next week. They have been in for 5 days now. Guess I was jumping the gun. I am also ticked about her being sent home the same day as the double lumpectomy and the same day as the bilateral mastectomy, but somehow I think when the people making these calls end up at the pearly gates old St. Peter is only going to let them stay , for 1 day..

Insurance companies. Hmmm...well, we've all got our insurance stories. I've had a little sign on my desk that says: "why I work: a short essay/ I like food./ the end." Since I was dx'ed and my hubby became disabled shortly after, I've thought about crossing out the "I like food" and putting, "I need the insurance." I'm not a big proponent of the "big brother" syndrome. But we need a better way to deal with health care, and every other civilized country in the world has healthcare available to everyone, regardless of income. I've got good insurance where I work, but I still pay thousands out of my pocket for our healthcare. And we have to put up with the insurance companies telling our doctors how long we can stay in the hospital.

I agree with you, Sniper, one day is just about enough for those people you describe.

Had they known your screen name was "sniper," they might have thought twice about sending YOUR wife home, though!

Coopfesta,
Did you see the drive thru mascetomy(sp?) post and the campain on lifetime tv's website to petition congress about getting rid of the 48 hours and kick them out of the hospital after a mascetomy. Women really do need more time in the hospital.
