I am so confused.  I don't know what this means.  I went for the diagnostic mamo today.  The tech took pictures, we located the "palpable mass".  When they squeezed for the extra pictures, I leaked. I was surprised and it was dark, it was just a little, and neither of us saw the contents.  She said sometimes that happens because they are squeezing the nipple area so tight.  Anywhoo, she then got a hold of the doctors office to ask for an order for an ultrasound, (since I was already there she said).  So I waited and waited, finally it came through, and off to ultrasound I went.  She squirted the goo, then scanned, and then asked me to find the area.  So I did, it is difficult to find when I lay flat because it sinks into the gobly gook inside my breast, and everything shifts.  She had the radiologist check her measurments and came back in 5 minutes and said I could go, they didn't see anything.  WHAT??????????????  So am I an idiot?  Am I imagining it?  I am so embarrased and confused.

They were all a little put off by the fact that they have to speed everything up.  It will be a miracle if my films are ready for pick up at 10 am tomorrow.  Then the mammo tech made it quite clear that I must get these back from the surgeon and return them, because this surgeons office is notorious for not returning them to the right hospital.  There are 2 owned by the same group and they are in close proximity to one another.

So should I be dancing in the rain and no longer need to stress out or worry?  Nothing is ever easy for me.

What are your thoughts?  Is it common that something would not show on the ultrasound?  The mammo tech would not say one way or the other.

Hi there...........I am going through pretty much the exact same thing!!!!!! My lump is not palpable as it is 6mm. I went for an ultrasound last week, and guess what???? The radiologist couldn't find it. What they should have told you is that not all tests show all lumps/masses etc. Just because you can feel it/can't feel it doesn't mean every test will pick it up. So so so frustrating!!! Did you get the results of the diagnostic mammo?? Did it show up on that?? I would definitely ask for further testing, such as a breast MRI, especially since you can feel it and had some discharge!!!!!! It doesn't mean the mass isn't there because u/s didn't pick it up. Mine didn't, but found a tinier lump, that they then "lost". Again, ask for further testing. Oh, I just re-read your post, the tech did see the mass on the diagnostic, correct?? Then, yes, you should have more tests done! You can hang on to your films in case you need to show another dr, etc. If you look at other posts, message boards, etc, you will see our situation is not uncommon. Please keep us updated!!! Take care, hope this helped a bit,

I agree with Jen, you should get more tests. You need to find out what it is. Hang in there and we are here for you.

Thank you Jen.  It was helpful, and I have been following some of your posts.  I did read something on line somewhere where it was discussed that sometimes palpable masses are difficult to ultrasound if they are deep and difficult to palpate in the laying down position, which mine is.  That sucker likes to go down and hide in that goopy mess when I am laying down.  Unfortunately I will need to wait one more day as my surgeon visit was rescheduled to tomorrow morning due to an emergency surgery today that would have moved my appointment up so far that I would not have had time to get my films, so it would have been pointless.   I got my films, but there was no radiologist report for yesterday, just the reports from previous months and years.  As far as the films, I can't see anything in the mammo from yesterday.  No obvious, "by golly gee will you look at that".  But by golly gee, IT'S STILL THERE IN MY BREAST!!!!! eyes ... So I have to make it one more day...

Sue, glad I could help. Let us know how evertything goes tomorrow. Also, I see you're hypothyroid. I am as well, I had 1/2 my thyroid removed last year. I had a big 4cm tumor, along w/ Hashimotos. I was hypo before all that....still think I could use more meds, but my endo didn't want to increase. Thinkin' about switching docs, but that's a different story!! Good luck tomorrow!!

Thank you to all.. I could not have gotten through the last few days without you. I had discharge this morning, only this time I saw it. It was yellow green. So I guess all this will turn out to be nothing. Fibrocystic breast.... Hmmm. I will find out for sure in a few hours, but that is now what I am expecting. I did see the birads reading on my mammo reports from the previous couple... I have been a consistent Birads 2. So I will let you all know what he says later today. I am thankful for many things this year, and one of them is finding such wonderful ladies as you!!!
