Tayshel, God bless you, I am here from the Lyme board, looking for answers here regarding Chronic EBV infection, mono, and CFS. Was hoping you all would know more than I about this virus.

I have read some say that chronic EBV IS CFS, and I have read some that say EBV IS chronic mono. Not sure what to believe, but my best guess is that Chronic EBV CAUSES CFS and Mono.

I do not know what the treatment is for CFS. And I understand that folks on this board will not appreciate a Lymey coming here, talking about Lyme. But because you are still struggling, maybe you should look into Lyme and/or have your Dr test you. Lyme is but one of the 'triggers' for immune disorders, from MS to CFS to lupus.

Also, I know of others who have struggled w/ this virus (EBV) for several years before getting better. Tayshel, this is very very tough! And I am very sorry to hear how hard you are struggling. I can certainly relate. TAKE CARE!!

Tayshel, If you know that you had Lyme back in your childhood, then I'd have to say 'yes, it is possible that Lyme has something to do w/ your illness now. I would never presume to say 'probably', or that I feel certain. Especially, since the very best Drs and researchers still do not know all of the connections here.

I my case, I believe that I contracted Lyme (from known tick bite), which compromised my immune system and caused EBV, amongst others (had mono as a teenager) to reactivate.

This is NOT a known or proven fact, because it can't be. It is also possible that I had a chronic EBV problem, which compromised my immune system, leaving me more suseptible for Lyme.

Soooo....... Which came first is not something that we can know at this time. They are all interelated, tho, I am sure of it.

So, here is one idea: There are Lyme Drs (LLMDs) who will prescribe some heavy duty abx, if they believe the person has a good chance of having LYme. (However, Lyme tests can be very inaccurate, for a multitude of reasons I won't go into now).

And some people will never be cured. However, if a person w/ CFS, MS, Parkinson's, Lupus, etc responds well to abx, then that demonstrates a liklihood of having LYme.

An active, chronic Lyme infection is very screwy. Many call it 'The great imitator' because the symptoms are so similar to other diseases.

However, I think I've figured out that it is not that Lyme 'mimics' other diseases. I believe that it is quite possible in some cases, not neccessarily a majority, that (late stage Lyme) Lyme was the root cause of the other current infections and symptoms.

Anyway, Taysel, I am certain that Lyme can 'go away' for many years, if it was not properly diagnosed and sufficiently treated. BUT, it has NOT 'gone away'.
