I know I posted about this before somewhere on here... but I've been suffering from fatigue for the past 10-11 years, and I'll be 25 on March 11th.

After seeing doctor after doctor... and having all of them say "oh well you're just depressed"... I FINALLY found a doctor that listened to me and ran the necessary tests to see what was REALLY wrong.

Anyone that knows me will tell you that I'm a very happy person. I believe that no matter how many clouds are in the sky, the sun is still shining. No matter how bad things seem, there's ALWAYS something positive to be found. I enjoy making people laugh, and am quite the goofball when I'm not feeling so exhausted.

So... my doctor had me go in for one of the many blood tests I've had done. One of the things that can cause CFS is the Epstein Barr Virus... which I tested positive for!!! At first, I was kinda scared, but he told me it's not really anything to worry about... that it's basically a virus that can cause mono and some other things, and in some people cause CFS. When I thought about it, there was a time about 10-11 years ago when I got really really really sick... for weeks... but I don't remember what the cause was. Ends up, that's probably what caused my fatigue, which makes sense because that's about when it started!!!

So, I'm on Provigil, and it's a total godsend!! It's like a miracle drug... I don't have any side effects, not jittery or anything, I just feel awake, I have energy, and it's MUCH easier concentrating on everything and staying focused!!

My mother (who hasn't been very supportive) has said for YEARS that my "fatigue" was just due to my sleeping schedule and that I was being lazy. She kept telling me "well if you got more sleep and went to bed at a decent hour you'd be fine". HAHA!!! I have a diagnosis!! She has never understood or believed me after all these years that no matter how much or little sleep I get, there is no magic number which makes me feel "normal". I could sleep for 4 hours, 6 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours... and I still just want to sleep all day (until Provigil!) Haven't gotten to tell her yet cause she's at work... but I can't wait to finally... be able to prove to her that I was right all along!!!

I just want to give everyone I see a hug I'm so happy I FINALLY have a definitive diagnosis... so after my test for this job as a 911 dispatcher... I think I'm going to go celebrate!!! I only wish I could share my happiness with everyone, and that everyone could be as happy as I am right now!!!

*GIANT HUGS FOR EVERYONE!!!!*

/me starts dancing
Hugs,

Nikki

I do not know what's wrong with me yet, but hopefully I'll find out soon :D

So glad for you getting a DX Nikki. Doesn't that feel GOOOOOOD.

I remember waiting and waiting to find out what on earth was wrong with me and then the relief I felt to have them put a name to it. Ahhhhhhh.

You still need to sleep though ... ha ... but your Mom is half right.

Minimum of 7 to 8 hours. Any CFS Dr. will tell you that and actually any Dr. will tell you that, even if you're Healthy.

Anyhow ... WOW .... a 911 Dispatcher .... PHEWY ... that's great and I know you'll be great at it ... as long as you can be emotionally Strong. Some calls are scarey and some are toooo sad. But I'm glad they're given it to somebody that has a Heart. We need more folks with a Heart on the other end an emergency call.

God Bless you girl and Congratulations :)

Oh yeah it feels GREAT to finally have a diagnosis!!! I could update my sig also yes lol. There's still stuff that's wrong, but I could go ahead and add that too lol. I'm still having abdominal pain, but not nearly as often as I was before, just during certain circumstances whereas before it was pretty much constant. Not to mention all the "severe" stuff was pretty much already ruled out... and the pain doesn't bring me to tears like it did before... it's just a really "uncomfortable" pain.

Since it's not horrible right now (the abdominal pain), I'm giving myself a much needed break from all this darn testing (that can be exhausting too)... and in a little bit go back to see the doc again.
Hugs,

Nikki

Congrats!  I know ECXACTLY what it's like to see a million Dr.'s and have them tell you your depressed when you KNOW your not.  It's the worst.  I have Epstein Barr and I suffer from Fatigue, but my Doctors tell me there's nothing I can do.  They say my epstein barr is not active anymore.  Did they say yours was active?? God bless

I don't remember him saying if the Epstein Barr was active or not... but yeah my doc also told me there was nothing he could do to cure that, there is no cure for that or CFS, and that it was something I'd have to deal with for the rest of my life. Which, I kinda already thought... since I've been dealing with it for 10-11 years already.

johnnyboy, I'd ask your doc about at least trying Provigil to see if it helps you with your fatigue at all... it's helped me considerably... granted, I'm not totally awake and aware every day, but it's a heck of a lot easier to deal with on the Provigil than nothing at all.

Bless you all, and well wishes for you all too!! Let's all have a party lol. Don't worry... nothing too exhausting ;) I'm still trying to figure out what to do on my birthday on Saturday (March 11th). So far it's looking like my friends are already busy with something :(
Hugs,

Nikki

I have chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety (at this current moment), and some minor abdominal pain which still hasn't been figured out yet... need a break from all the testing ;)

Medications:

CFS: Provigil 200mg, once a day
Anxiety: Lorazepam .5 or 1mg 3xs a day or as needed
