First Poster: I received a call from my DR.'s  nurse last friday, she was letting me know the DR. said my labs show a positive for chronic fatigue, and I need to see a Ruemy ASAP, received a letter today that my appointment will be in July. Now it has boggled me all weekend, I have tried my darndest to stay away from CFS/FM DX for what, 12-13 years now. You know the stigma and its all in your head fantasy illness thing, after all these years I give up, I need a name to this, this thing that has drove me close to suicide on one occassion, and when I say close, I'm playing it down a lot; ended up in a PSYCH  ward for that one. Okay back on track, all week end I've researched this on line., cause my DR mentioned at my last appointment there is a lab test for CFS now, I said "really", he assured me there was, and medications to treat it, well I was floored but didnt think much about it again till last Friday........what is this man talking about I cant find a sliver of evidence that there is a test for CSF, and I know myself;  its going to be hard for me to accept it without seeing it in black and white (abnormal labs ect.). Dont get me wrong I have all the symptoms of both CFS/FM, and discoid lupus (which is DX by labs). But has anyone heard of this? yeah Lab test for CFS.  I"ll work on accepting this no matter what, cause most of me says "fool it is CFS" but a small whisper keeps saying "but the labs say normal", except for transient anomiles in blood and urine work ups, that are always dimissed as nonthing. Is my DR privy to something no one eles is or am I just looking in the wrong place, please respond with any comment, it would be appreciated, thank you, Mad.

Welcome madoryko. I am like you and have never heard of a lab test to diagnose CFS. Have you asked the doc what lab test he used to diagnose it. I'd be really interested to know what it is. Just another thought - is it possible that your discoid lupus has developed into systemic lupus? It wouldn't hurt for you to look at the criteria for diagnosing systemic lupus (if you haven't already).

I am very aware of the stigma associated with CFS amd FM. Although there are some people who still think these diseases are all in your head, there has been medical research done to prove that these are very real illnesses and that the symptoms are very real. I know for myself the CFS is very real because I cannot make myself have a fever or make my glands swell.

Please feel free to ask any other questions or just vent if you are having a bad day.

Take care and I'm glad you joined
