Hi! I've been having this dull eye pain in my right eye for about 1,5 weeks now. The pain is located on the upper left side of the eye, just beneath the eyebrow. I've been to a eye doctor and he checked the pressure and everything but he couldn't find anything wrong with my eyes. My eye is not red, and I haven't got any vision-troubles. Still, it pains, especially at night when my eyes are closed. I find it hard to sleep because of the pain. What could it be and what should I do??? Please help, it's really annoying... sad

Do you have sinus congestion because that would cause eye pain that gets worse when you lay down.  Obviously there are other things that it could be as well and you need to check with a doctor.

You mean if I have rhinitis? I don't... And I do not feel as if I had a cold or so. My doctor gave me these eye drops last tuesday, they are just kind of artifical tears (only NaCl and water). Today I spoke with my doctor again, because, apparently, they are not helping, and the only thing he told me was to take them 8 times a day instead of 4 and to wait one more week.

That doesn't sound like advice I would take.

Marran,

You need to have more than an eye doc look at you. You could have anything from migraines, to cluster headaches to a tumor or just stress headaches...or who knows what. Please get to your regular doctor and have him refer you to a specialist he thinks is best.

Thanx all of you that answerd! I took a little break from reading, watching TV and my computer; and my eye is feeling a little better. Maybe it was just tired... The last 4 days it hurt much less than before, and I could sleep without getting disturbed by the pain. Anyway, if the pain continues untill thursday, I have to check it witch my doctor again. I was kind of stressed and read much before the pain started because of an exam that I had friday, so maybe it was therefore the pain started. Hope my eye gets better now that I've done the exam...

Gramps: I' not taking topamax. Yeah, Chutzie's the best ;)

this sounds like it could possibly be Reiter Syndrome/Reactive Arthralgia which is known to attack the eyes (iritis, uveitis, high intra-ocular fluid pressure/inflammation, etc)....you will want to be tested for the HLA-B27 gene marker which gives you a much higher probability of getting conditions like Reiter's/ReA -- though there are poenty of people, like me, who have quite severe Reiter's and yet are HLA-B27 negative.

(There are several new gene markers for inflammatory disease being discovered and will soon be available for testing, but for now B27 is all there is to look for)

I would most definitely get checked out by a Rheumatologist or someone else who has seen a few different types of Reiter's/Reactive Arthritis/Reactive Arthralgia and might be able to accurately diagnose you.

In the mean time, think back.....was there any sort of infection, food poisoning, etc. that preceded these symptoms? Even if it was months or years before the eye pain began? Research Reiter's and see if you can recognize any of the many different possible symptoms......
Conditions: Reactive Arthralgia (AKA Reiter Syndrome), Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome, Sacroiliitis, Costochondritis, widespread Tendonitis, severe back pain & spasms with numerous spinal problems, barely able to type anymore due to severe full-body runaway inflammation, and on and on. Typical daily pain levels exceed 8.5(!)

Medications: CURRENTLY CROSS-TAPERING (Methadone & Oxycodone ER), Dilaudid, Marinol & Medicinal (doctor-prescribed) Cannabis, Lidocaine Patches, Flexeril, Soma; many herbs & supplements.

Previous medications: Oxycontin, Opana ER (12 hour time releasd Oxymorphone, Endo Pharm.), generic Mylan Fentanyl patches (two 100mcg/hr patches worn simultaneously, changed every two days), Kadian, Avinza, MS Contin, Lortab (hydrocodone), OxyIR, Baclofen, Testosterone (oral, patches, gel), Cymbalta, Lyrica, Neurontin, Amitryptyline, every NSAID known to man, Prednisone....and many, MANY more.

I agree with Chutzie. I think you should look into getting a MRI done of your head, to rule out tumors, they could be what is putting pressure or pain on your eyes. You just never know....better safe than sorry!

Fentanyl Patch 12 mcg/hr

Well, I'm going to a doctor tomorrow because the eye still hurts and the eyedrops don't help. I'll ask for a MRI, wish me luck...Knowing the medical system here it will be hard to get a referral, but I'll try.

Omg! I went to a health center today and guess what they said? That they can't help me and I have to go to an eye doctor. But I've already been to an eye doctor about 2,5 weeks ago and he told me that he couldn't help me and that I have to go to a "regular" doctor at a health center. I'm just so tired of all this right now... Anyway I forced them to make an appointment for me tomorrow with a "regular" doctor, I really hope he can help me... :/
