I went to the othropedic spine surgeon he said Im a candidate for  surgery but want to try other things first before surgery .  I have two herniated discs one in l5 and the other one is in s1 more severe the nerves is pressing and creating a  blockage   which is causing my urinary symptoms. i also have cervical radiculitis . I was dxed with fibromylagia . I found out the reason for my hip pain  I have bursitis and arthritis in my hips. The treatment plan is a increase dose in hydrocodone 10 mg to 4 times a day  and soma . I also have pt and to be put in a back brace and traction. have an emg and xrays of my all three of my spines and hips. have epis and a nerve block in my lumbar spine. That is the reason Im in alot of pain. I hope everyone has a lpd.

kara, thanks for the update.   remember that surgery is a LAST resort, not a first reaction to a problem.  have you tried chiropractic?  i have had great success with chiropractic even though some here have had some less than steller experiences.  PT is also ofthe helpful and epifural steriod inkections help some people (the pain after an epidural steroid injection alm ost drove me to suicide).  there are plusses and minuses with every modality.  Be open and careful.

i know that having the films and the "proof" of your misery is helping to vindicate you for all of the agony you have been through.

hope this helps.

kara487 - I agree with the epidurals being extremely painful, I tried not to breath but couldn't hold my breath that long. I never any positive results with any of the 4 I had either.

Also, I would thing twice before surgery. I have had 2 surgeries for lumbar fusions. The second one has eventually led to my being confined to a wheelchair.

Best of luck to you in whatever relieves your pain!
