Hey all,

I've had chronic pain for the last 8 years.  Since moving to a different state 2 years ago, I feel like I've had to start all over again in regards to "proving" my pain.

I now  have a very good Pain Manager now through my health care.

One of the members here mentioned Opana.  I was wondering if anyone else has tried it, and the results they've had.

I've tried Oxycontin and Morphine - both make me way too fatigued and sick to my stomach.  I've been on Percocet, which so far seems the only med I can really tolerate.  However, we are looking for a long-term solution.

It has only been out since November I'm told.  If you have taken it, or tried it, please let me know how it affected you.

Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

Lisa,

No, I have never heard of it, but I wanted to welcome you to the forum and just say hi! I too am interested in finding out about opana and listening to results people have had. I take percocet for pain and lyrica as well. They both work nicely for me.

Well Good luck and keep posting Lisa.

Hugs,

Lindaloo

Hi, Lisa,
Welcome to the HW forum. I bumped up an older thread started by Shannon that has some useful info. on opana, especially the posts by Disce Pati. Hope it helps some.

You may want to search other threads. I don't personally have any experience with it.

Good luck!

Hey Lindaloo,

Good hearing from you!  I should be receiving the Opana sometime next week.  I will report back on the results after trying it for a week or 2.

Thank you!

Lisa

I have been using Opana since March and love it. I tried almost every other opiate in the book and they hardly did anything for my pain and made me nauseus. When using Opana you take it on an empty stomach but I have never gotten sick from it. As for managing my pain I feel I'm improving. I've gone from 9-10 (on a pain scale/all day long) and now with the Opana I'm at a 7 and sometimes even a 6 which is great for me. I actually feel like I have gotten part of my life back because of this drug. I know that we all react differently to meds but in my experience I have nothing but good things to say.

I'm curious as to how it will work for you. GL and I hope you have a LPD.

Dear BlizzardLizzard,

Thanks for the enouraging words regarding Opana.  I can't wait to try it!  I have chronic pain (8 years now) from an injury.  It's been in my mid to upper back, shoulders, neck, arms and much loss of my left hand (of course - I'm left handed eyes    I also have depression and anxiety (partially from the pain and meds i think.  It has now moved to my lower back - leaving me feeling practically crippled.  I know the pain scale well - usually 8-9 for quite a while now.  I hope Opana works as good for you as it does for me.
Good luck to you. I'll report back after I'm on it for a couple of weeks.  I too was unable to use the stronger meds (oxycontin, morphine, etc. - same effects that you had).

I tried it for a couple of months, but didn't get decent relief from it. That may have stemmed from the fact that we were still tapering the dose. I had a lot of trouble with nausea, but phenerghan helped with that.
It is expensive, so if your PM can give you the 25 .00 discount cards for it, that does help with the copay.
I hope that you get decent relief with it. Good luck.

what do you mean you are waiting on it? I would just go to the drugstore and get a few tabs to try that way you wont be out alot of money . I tried it and it was wonderful for pain , but the side effects are the killer.

Thank you for your replies! The reason I'm "waiting" on them, is that I would have to drive in to "the city" to pick them up (too much for me to handle the stress/anxiety). Actually, I spoke with the mail-order pharmacy and the "order" is in the works. They don't normally have it there (it is fairly new). It was ordered today and should be received tomorrow - then sent to me right away.

However, now I'm very concerned about the side effects. I've tried oxycodone and morphine - both were intolerable with side effects. Hopefully it will work for me - I'm starting to run out of hope. My neighbor loaned me her cane which helps a bit with walking, but really - this is ridiculous!!!! The pain was never in my lower back (lumbar) until after having a hysterectomy in April. The OB/GYN informs me that I should be completely healed by now from that.

Well, at least I do have covereage for meds - so that's not breaking the bank (waiting on SSDI is doing enough of that!!!)

Thanks again for the info
Lisa
