Hi everybody - just want to take a moment to introduce myself.  I live in the Bay Area, California.  I'm married and we have six boys, ages 13 down to 4.  I've been very ill for five years.  I became ill during my last pregnancy.  My "official diagnosis" is POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) - which means with ANY activity, my heart beats about 150 beats per minute.  I have Dysautonomia (problems with my autonomic nervous system) and multiple chronic pain issues.  These include severe migraine headaches, severe carpal tunnel syndrome, widespread muscle/joint paint and so forth.

I'm on heavy duty narcotics - the equivalent of 480 morphine sulfate, a break through med, a muscle relaxer and heart meds.  I'm have a trial for the intrathecal drug pump within the next two weeks.

This seems like a VERY supportive board.  I'm 35 years old and am handling 6 kids.  Every day is a journey, to say the least!  I'm looking to share my experiences with others as well as gain wisdom from all of you.

Look forward to talking more :-)   --Tina

Hey Tina,

Let me be the first to welcome you to the CP board.  You will find that this is a very informative, sympathetic, and supportive place to be.

You certainly do have your hands full...six boys!!!  I just can't imagine being able to do that with perfect health.  I'm so glad you are going to get to try out a pain pump.  They are so much easier and safer to deal with than oral meds, both for you and your family.  I hope it works out well for you.  Please keep us updated on your condition, and let us know if there's anything we can help you with.

Tina:

Let me second Leigh Ann's welcome! I am sorry for the issues that bring you to us, but we are definitely glad to have you join the crew. You are absolutely right about this being a very supportive forum. I have found much encouragement and helpful information here when I've needed it.

It sounds like you run a very busy household! I can only imagine that a houseful of little men keeps you hopping! I have occasional racing heart rates, and it is really painful! I can't imagine what it would be like to know that any activity at all would bring that on! Do your heart medications help keep that under control? I am glad to hear you are getting the pump trial, too. Be sure you do some careful research about the specific pump you would be getting. I have read that some of them are experiencing recalls due to malfunctions that inhibit delivery of medication. You can search on this board - I think there are several threads about it.

Aside from the threads related to our health issues, we also have a few goofy threads that have been designed by some of the members to help us get our minds off our pain for a little while. You could read on the Beach Party or Dessert Thread if you want to see a little of our sense of humor! tongue

Again, welcome! I look forward to getting to know you better.
