Hello there Beach Party goers and anyone else!

First, this is NOT the new Beach Party thread. That is coming soon!!! yeah

But in preparation, I thought we needed to think of some new menu items! turn

This group is GREAT at coming up with food choices! rolleyes

So it can be a new dessert, or main course, or side, or appetizer, or liquid refreshment, or "nibble" foods! This will help us put together our menu for the rest of August!

My start (and I bow to Dragness Warrior for some inspiration as she suggested the Italian rum cake):

Rum BaBas! idea

These are just small balls made of something like an angel food cake mixture, soaked - for at least overnight - in rum! smhair And then eaten with fresh REAL whipped cream on top! We used to make them in college (decades ago for me!) and let them soak for DAYS adding, of course, just a tad more rum to the dish (kind of like watering a flower!). smilewinkgrin

Yum! turn

Ok, your turn...

PaLady cool

p.s. If you're a newcomer (and we welcome you!!) our Beach Party is "virtual" and that means anything we can think of that's within the rules! So there are "virtual" gourmet chefs available at your beck and call! You don't need to do the cooking or the shopping...just the imagining! yeah

I think we should have an Italian night-though someone else would need to do the cooking as mine never comes out right. I want lasagna, speggetti and meatballs, sausage, and good itilian bread with olive oil.
We could have canoli and cheesecake for desert (okay we've had cheesecake before but does it ever get old).

Hey All ...
All I want is some Coconut cake and Cherries. I'll bring a lot of those ...

I take that back!!!! This is a Virtual Party, I'm bringing Margueritas. There's
a liquor that I'll be bringing but I can't think of the name. Haven't had it
for so long.

Hmmm .... Maybe an excellent tostado. Is that the think with all the lettuce
stacked up on one tortilla.....

Wow! Some ethnic ideas!! That's GREAT! idea

I'll take over planning the Italian night (you can guess why! smilewinkgrin) And you're absolutely right, Sj. Some things never get old, and cheesecake is one of them! yeah And so are brownies - did I tell you all I made a batch in your honor 2 nights ago! turn

Now we'll need someone with a little more expertise in Spanish or Mexican food. Anyone out there?? idea (Pamela??)

We're off to a good start! And I'm off to eat more brownies. In your honor, of course. yeah

OK I can make a mean "Arroz Con Pollo" *chicken with yellow rice
or a "Ropa Vieja", shredded skirt steak made with lots of onion and garlic and tomato sauce and white rice
or "Chicken Fricassee" in a merlot wine sauce, potatos and white rice
how about a "Picadillo", ground beef spiced with cumin oregano, garlic salt and pepper with potatoes and tomato sauce added. oh yes and a little green pepper served over a bed of white rice
Or My favorite, "Empanadillas" fried meat pies with ground beef, garlic, cumin, oregano, onion, green pepper, raisins, olives, tomato sauce, salt and pepper. The crust is made with white wine, eggs, crisco , butter, salt ,sugar and flour. The yummiest of all!

I can have it all prepared and brought to the buffet table by midnight. See you all there. Bring your appetites!

LInda,
YUM! I'm waiting for sampling to start! But you have to save a night (or a whole day) once the Beach Party resumes and do a little education for us all. yeah

But we're all GREAT eaters! yeah

And you get all the massages your little heart desires! smilewinkgrin

Midnight of which night? Every night? Hubby and I made his family's pirogies yesterday. Guess I can talk him into helping make another batch. They are wonderful stuffed with mashed potatoes into which you blend as much cheese as possible. Boil the little bundles first, then fry in real butter and Walla Walla sweet onions.

And I do make a mean cheesecake if we need more of them.

How did you know I was a queen?? I never let that information out. Don't tell everyone, just the beach party goers can know. Can I wear my crown and dress too? It might be too hot at the beach, but I don't care, I don't get to dress up that much anymore. And since the cat is out of the bag......................................

Oops! Sorry, Linda! rolleyes I'm not good at keeping cats in bags! Or maybe they're not good at staying inside!!

Some late August nights get a little chilly, so we can have a sunset coronation ceremony! Comlplete with a Spanish feast! And I'm already thinking of music.... idea

Glad I started this thread before the Beach Party gets revved up again! But looks like I'd better get "cooking" on that before the gang gets too restless and I have a mutiny on my hands! shocked

And of course, no party can begin without the Dragoness!  scool LOL!  I'm on that Special Italian Rum, idea loads of it!!  A never ending batch of it!!  So, PALady, you can have as much as your little heart desires, when we get to the beach!! turn

I know a lot of Italian dishes, if you would like me to help you prepare, PALady?!  I also have a little knowledge of Spanish dishes too!!  I can help there too, Lindaloo!  Oh, and I think the Ropa Vieja, was meant to be Carne Vieja, is that right?! confused

Boy, I have to say, I didn't realize that we started such a "la resistance" with Wilson!  LOL!  But I couldn't stop laughing with the fun that we were having!  Sorry that I've been quiet, I ate too much and had been sleeping all that time!  LOL!  Ry, sorry that I left you with the rolling heads, I didn't even hear all the commotion!  Slept right through it!!  LOL!

Ok, and there's going to be angel food cake, soooo, there has to be devil 's food cake!?!  I'm on it!  LOL!  I better get baking!!

And can we have cool summer alcoholic drinks, besides Margaritas?  Like Strawberry Daquari's, and Almaredo Sours, and Mohitos, etc.?!  LOL!

Dragoness,

Ropa Vieja translates into Old Clothes and thats what I've always known the dish as. It's listed that way on all the menus in sourth Florida as well. But maybe it's known as carne vieja in other places. Whichever, it is delicious and I will make a ton of it, without all the hard work of course. Shredding that skirt steak can be a bear I tell ya. Glad this is all virtual.

Oh, Linda! I don't think I wanted to know the "old clothes" translation! LOL! I think it sounded yummier in Spanish! smilewinkgrin

Dragoness: You crack me up! I am worn out from chasing down the Wilsons, but I'll forgive you for not being there as it gave me extra time with our special buddies before they went on to brighten up their next forum. devil

Let's have a desert sundae bar too!

I have to say I am very impressed with this group's creativity! idea Even a sundae bar - however did we miss that? shocked

I think Linda and Dragoness will have to give me (and maybe a few others) a translation of all the dishes for our Spanish night (Latin night? Mexican? Hispanic? Not meaning at all to offend anyone shakehead- just want to know what Linda wants us to call it!). Are you ready for your coronation this weekend, Lindaloo? smilewinkgrin

I only ask that the "hot" foods be red flagged (maybe a devil will do as a label?) so I don't set my mouth on fire too early in the evening?

So are you all getting ready to start Act 3 of the Beach Party??? yeah smhair

Hmm.... Is everyone too tired to contiue the Beach Party? I've been low on energy myself, but if there's still interest I'll try to perk myself up to starting a new thread to take us through labor day.

I was thinking of a weekend of ethnic foods and music and dancing? Any interest? idea

I am ready for a coronation, a food fest anything to get me out of this darn rain. This tropical storm won't quit. I have seen ten days of nonstop rain and now wind and I'm ready to play on the beach and have fun. Color me there PaLady, Ryand and the gang.

OK, PaLady, I am back. Sorry I dropped the ball here a little... I do hope we continue the party for a little while if we can! It was just so much fun to have something to laugh about!

Tell you what... If you can do the beach thing until Labor Day, I'll put on my thinking cap (idea) and see if I can come up with something for the holiday season, okay? We need to give you a rest from all that party planning! That's a big job! smilewinkgrin

Can we have s'mores?
