Hi, friends,
This to most people would sound like a ridiculous post. And I'm trying to keep it in perspective, too. But my cable - and thus my tv (because I live in a rural area with no reception) - has been out all day and I feel so sad and even more isolated than normal! I don't have streaming video or any of that more expensive stuff, so I'm left waiting for the cable company to fix things. Something about a poll being knocked down somewhere, so it's not just my service.

Anyway, I just wanted to come somewhere I knew at least a few others wouldn't think I was (too) nuts! rolleyes For those of us hurting, seems like tv and our computers become big parts of our lives. Maybe too big. Although sometimes we don't have lots of choices. sad

Ok, I'll stop whining now! eyes

Palady,

That is so not a whine and if it is you can whine all you want!  The worse things sometimes when you are feeling all alone is the slience.  I love the quite but when Im feeling really loney I like background noise or just to be able to get lost in a show or movie and make you forget that you are alone.

At least we do have our computers and tv even if its to excess at times.  I have made some of the best friends I have ever met here on the PC so like all things it just about balance, and when we dont have the options that others have we make do with what we have.  Please dont feel bad I think most of us rely on both to get through most days!

BTW hows things with the car did you get it fixed yet?  Hope you are feeling well today Palady!

Im just sitting here on my pc listening to the weather channel to find out but Hanna.  I live in SC so i need to be prepared altho I do think its not gonna be as bad as they first thought.

Take Care Palady

Oh, PaLady, That totally stinks!! shocked I had to let my tv service get turned off for a couple of months there (you know... the bill thing) and I can't get local channels either. It was just AWFUL! So you are absolutely NOT nuts, my friend. nono When you depend on something like tv to connect you to the outside world it is a very big deal to lose it. I hope they get the pole fixed pronto!

In the mean time, here is something to entertain you...

I opened a cupboard in my kitchen today and discovered... a, well, very unwelcome and thankfully (?) very dead tiny RODENT shocked was there to greet me!!! Okay, so 1) I can't move very fast any more and 2) I am deathly afraid of vermin and spiders and such and 3) there was a RODENT shocked in my kitchen! a RODENT! shocked shocked

I am breathing again now but of course I'm going to have to have the kitchen removed from my house. I'm working on how to do that. In the mean time, I am waiting as far away from it as possible for my father to get over here and remove the RODENT shocked from my vicinity. Preferably at least 50 miles away!

*sigh* Can I come live with you?

Oh, Ry!! shakehead I can count on you to make me laugh, but I have a Part 2 to your Part 1! In addition to all my other troubles of late (and I did get my car back yesterday, Lara, thanks for remembering! Cost big $$ thought), anyway....I've had squirrel (s - pretty sure it's plural) getting in an out of my attic somewhere off and on for about the past month. Like you, I have a rodent phobia! But I don't have a father to call! sad (can I borrow yours?)

The darned thing seems to like to "play" around 5am and I know I've got to call someone to not only get it (them shocked ) out, but find out where they're coming and going from. And with all the quiet in my house today, I could really hear one scampering around and there were moments when I swore it was on my level with me and no longer in the attic! I think I screeched once and all my windows are open, but no one came (darn!) to help. Exterminators cost $$...so now that I have the car back, I've got another unplanned expense. But I laughed at you wanting to remove your kitchen because I thought maybe I could put my attic on top of it? idea

Oh, my. I wonder if the Wilsons have anything to do with all this! smhair (for others who don't understand this reference, it's a long, long story!)

I do know about having to possibly cut the cord on the cable permanently, and that scares me for the exact reasons you described. I tried unplugging everything today to see if I could get even one local station, but no luck. shakehead This all sounds so pathetic, but I knew there's be people here who understood!

Oh, I wish I could send my dad to visit you, PaLady! But I don't know if he could help with the squirrel. I actually thought I might have had a squirrel too. Maybe still do. Like you said, you hear it scampering around and you are right - it sounds for all the world like it is right next to you! shocked I've been hearing this scampering for the last several months, but of course every time my father is here - nothing. I actually kind of hoped it was a squirrel because even though that scared me too it seemed a little better than mice. rolleyes Stupid logic - I know. eyes

Anyhow, I'm all for putting your attic on my kitchen. When I track the Wilsons down I think I'll ask them to do the labor for us! I'll send them your way when they are done detaching my kitchen, okay? smilewinkgrin

Will the animal control place come and get out the squirrels? Maybe they wouldn't charge? I'll be curious to hear what happens with that. If it isn't a squirrel here I think there must be a whole village of rodents up there somewhere for all the noise they make, but this is the only one I've seen and I can't find any other "evidence" so I don't know what to do to get rid of them short of moving! Or detaching rooms one by one. Ah well, at least the Wilsons will have a project to keep them busy this winter! smhair tee hee

Ry

p.s. glad to hear you got your car back. sorry to hear it was costly, but I'm sure it is good to know it's settled before winter sets in.

Well, he got rid of the one in the kitchen. He wouldn't take the kitchen with him though. Don't know what that's all about. The news gets worse! There was another one - another rodent shocked in one of the traps I'd asked him to set when the scampering sounds had started a while back. EEEEEWWWW!!!! shocked

I wish I could send him on to your house, PaLady! smhair

Hey, I did have another thought, though... I know you don't have streaming video, but on nbc's website, there are a few of their shows that you can actually download right to your computer. Then you could watch them without being connected to the internet. I wondered if that would work for your computer maybe. I don't know which shows or if they'd be ones that would interest you. I got to the point where I'd watch shows I hadn't ever thought of tuning into before just to keep the boredom at bay! Anyhow I just thought I'd pass it along.

Okay, I have to go figure out how I'm going to close up the far side of my living room once the kitchen is gone. smilewinkgrin

Another little critter, eh? Methinks the Wilsons are at work! devil One day I'll tell you the story of what I did as a girl when I saw a mouse in the house. My father was none too pleased, as I called him out of a meeting! shocked

I used to have a cat, and didn't have mouse problems. Would love another cat, but not with my health and finances. Since I've no one to call, I bought those traps that are like little houses so you can't see the mouse inside. It's the only thing I could bring myself to use, and even then I have an old set of BBQ tongs I use to pick it up to put in in the garbage! Pathetic! shakehead

I've tried downloading videos and such, but with this dial up connection it takes forever. Tonight I'm regressing to the use of radio! I feel like I'm waiting for Orson Wells to come on! shocked
And, of course, I'm here writing! smilewinkgrin

Whatever will you do with that kitchen? A blow torch? smhair And don't you just hate going to bed and turning out all the lights! shocked smhair

Thank goodness for all those nighttime medications!

Creepy mices. I'm still trying to catch the rest of mine. It seems the only thing they really want to eat is my meds & I'm NOT letting them at those again. shakehead

What to do? What to do?! I did find out that mice hate, hate, hate the smell of peppermint so I got some peppermint spray & peppermint lotion & I put it all over me & my bed before I go to sleep. I slacked off when I changed the sheets before going out to my brother's shower over the weekend & the evil little demon mice got into my bed & left me little presents in my sheets. No more making that mistake again! They do seem to stay away from the peppermint smell, though. Wouldn't even come into my bedroom at all while I was doing that, so maybe you can try. I've read that peppermint plants work as well as sprays & lotions, so whatever you can get a hold of.

Anyways, I've got to get my sheets ready so I can sleep in peace tonight. I was in gobs of pain today & went in late to work, but almost didn't go in at all. Fortunately I did because none of the other admins showed up -- what a sad lot we are, everyone's got migraines or back pain or knee probs or plantar fasciciatis or something & we're all out all the time; they keep trying to hire healthy people, but then the healthy people grow problems a few months after they're hired and we're back in the same boat. :) I really need to figure out some way to try to stay positive & try to make it in tomorrow, but I'm kinda doubtful I'll be able to get much sleep even if the mices are gone because of all the pain.

PALady -- you didn't miss much on the TV tonight. It was just the politicians saying more mean things about one another. I did write down one quote though from Rudy Guiliani (sp?) so I'll pass it on to you so you can feel part of the action: "Change is not a destination just as hope is not a strategy." I think that's kinda true for our situation as well. I'll let you think on that (it'll give you something to do :), but I was thinking about the second part & how it's frustrating when things don't work out the way we've hoped they would -- even if those plans were "just" to relax & watch a night of shows on the TV. I do "hope" your TV service gets fixed real soon & I will be praying for you to find something enjoyable to occupy your mind in the meantime (and squirrels, mices & broken cars definitely*don't* count as "enjoyable" -- Wilsons!).

GB,
frances smhair

Me, again! rolleyes

Just have to add another comment before I hopefully go to bed! yeah

Frances I think you raise another one of those "food for thought" notions, although I'd definitely want to remove the discussion from all things political! But sometimes hope is absolutely necessary for us to keep going, but then sometimes hope maybe makes it more difficult to accept our situation and live in the moment. That requires a lot of explanation or it may be misinterpreted as I don't mean not to try to improve our heatlh, etc., but there's also a time we have to accept that some things aren't going to change. And maybe those things are as "little" as I cannot will my cable to come back on tonight! Of course, the bigger things are that for many of us we can't will our bodies back to health either. Or will the pain to completely go away. So what do we do? Hoping for something different in that context maybe makes it even harder - am I making sense? Me sitting here hoping for my tv to go on keeps me from focusing on doing something else - like writing all of you! smilewinkgrin Or remembering that I did have a radio, even though I don't have those stations that get every kind of music and then some.

Anyway, it's late. I should take the hint since my tv has already gone to sleep! rolleyes

Night all - and as always, thanks for the company!

My computer is my lifeline and when it goes on the fritz I feel as if I lost a member of my family! :) For instance, my routine is to wake up, have my coffee (no one talks to this momma without her first cup of coffee!!), watch a bit of the news on tv and I hop on the pc to read up on what's been going on with HW or my second fave website - Myspace :). So this morning, I get up like usual, have my coffee, watch a bit of tv and sit down to the pc and omgoodness! No internet! I was stuck behind a firewall! Wow, what to do??? I was at a complete loss that I just didn't know what to do with myself. shocked

Obviously I got it back smilewinkgrin

Hey there PAlady, so sorry your tv is out! idea How about if I loan y'all my two lil kittens to help with those lil critters. They just might chase those squirrels away..hehehe and would be so fun to watch...hehehe
Or better yet get yourself a cat. The humane society is a good place to look. Just an idea...all you would need help with is the changing of the litter box........
I sure hate it when car repairs are so expensive and all they do is change a wire devil
Lots of soft hugz to you PAlady and good luck with the squirrels!

Hi, Char and everyone,
I just got home about an hour ago from my meager work of a couple of hours. Finally, the cable is back on. So ya think maybe, just maybe I could have a relaxing evening???

I found some things in a bit of disarray. One of those sticky things you put out for mice was dragged out and toppled over under my kitchen table! And a tomato was on the floor - from the countertop where I keep them. So I have a critter in here with me NOW and I don't know where it is and I'm starving cuz I haven't eaten but who can relax and eat? (well, maybe some of you can but I know Ry can't!)

Stupid little things, I know. Life will go on. I'll call some kind of critter place tomorrow, and hope I can sleep tonight. Or I'll just stay up until dawn! LOL You may see posts from me at weird hours. Posts making little sense! GRRR!

It's those Wilsons, I know it!

Oh, no! shocked Oh, PaLady, how I wish I could send my dad your way and quickly, too! I so get the not eating or sleeping - at least you can turn on the tv now to try and distract yourself. I'm still so freaked out by this whole thing too. I had to laugh about the tongs - I am the same way - When I lived too far from my dad to have him come over and had a mouse I did that same thing - two sets of gloves layered, too! smhair

Well, hopefully the Wilson's have chased the pest out of the house long ago! I hope you can get some rest. I will look for you in the posts in the wee hours. smurf

I had to put down my 20 year old cat about 3 years ago. I would love to have another, but even cleaning a littler box would be too much for me right now, let alone the expenses. When I visit my goddaughter, I love cuddling her cat, but right now it's just not a good possibility for me. Even when I bend to pick up her cat, I have trouble. And I may need to change my living situation sometime in the not too distant future due to finances. If I have to move in with my cousin, she is allergic to cats. So I wish I could have one, but the timing's not right. And it would be even more painful to give it up.

It's really hard to relax tonight; sure hope my nighttime meds work really well!

Sorry but what's with the squirrels? Here in Belgium they are protected animals. I have lots of them in my back yard, as well as woodpeckers (lots of other birds azs well of course), rabbits, a family of foxes and a cat. I feed most of them and apart from the occasional rabbit caught by a fox it is all very peaceful. The squireels are almost tamed by now (although all animals life in the wild) and literrally eat out of my hand. They are cute little animals. When they are in love they rob their noses together and waggle their tails.

if you hear noises at nioght, they are not squirrels (usually) as they are not nocturnal. My cat doesn't cat any mice and I got rid of the problem by feeding them and gradually moving the food out of the house. They just moved. I don't mind mice as I think they're cute as well, it's just they leave their droppings all over the place (not their fault, they don't have a rectum as we do). Usually they find the forest more pleasant hten my house.

I also had little houses constructed for the birds and squirresl to eat in should it rain.

As for the TV thingie, I understand. My TV is working fine but I can't sit in my chairs any more (except this specially designed offcie chair). I used to life without it. Don't you like reading or listening to music (just for the purity of it, relaxing with your eyes closed).

Glad your TV and car are back.

Take care friends.

Hi, Morgoth,
I don't mind all the animals but they need to stay outside. Squirrels do a ton of damage in attics and such - to electric wires in particular. And they leave droppings and "such", too! As long as they're outside I have no problem. It's part of why I don't cut down some trees which have grown quite tall - but a lot of the birds and squirrels live in them. So it's the indoor damage, and I'm starting to smell some odor - health and other issues!

Sure I love music and some reading (as much as my neck can take it), but it's the point of not having the choice, I guess. I actually did put the radio on and kind of chuckled about that. Missed the ease of getting news and such, although I guess there's always the internet!

Just too many things all at once. On top of pain and financial things. ya know? One thing at a time! Or maybe two. Or three. But that's it! smilewinkgrin

Uh, Yeah... Gotta agree with PaLady here. Rodents belong OUTdoors. Out there, they can run around and scamper to their hearts content. But as PaLady said, there are more problems than just noises. Having mice in our houses can be unhealthy! shocked

PaLady? smhair How are you doing? smurf I hope your meds have kicked in and you are getting a little rest.

My lil max was 17 yrs old when he died this past January and it was very hard so my heart goes out to you PAlady! But in May I got two new lil kittens one is a Snowshoe named Remington, the other is a black cat from a neighbor friend and named him Chancellor as we got him by chance! In total I've had three black cats and let me tell you they where (are) the niceist of cats. So how about a virtual Black Kitty PAlady and you can name him Spooks and he'd be all neutered too, just for you PAlady....wish I could share my lil black kitty with you, but he's still young and very very playful, he woke me up at 6 am this morning to says play with me now!...www.Catster.com is a great site to look at other cats and give them virtual treats.........
Hope your feeling a little better today PAlady...

Thanks, Char, but actually, thinking about not having a cat, or substituting a virual one, just makes it harder. I miss having a pet so much, but I can't manage one and a virtual one would make me sadder because I'd want a real one.

I notice in your post you said "we" so if you have a spouse or others in the household to help, that makes a huge difference. Those of us who are alone have a lot to manage just with our health and finances, right Ry?

Thanks for understanding, Char. I hardly slept last night and that's with my meds so of course no sleep plus pain meds equals exhaustion, wacky thinking, etc. etc., etc.!

Tomorrow morning a wildlife exterminator is coming to set traps for the squirrel(s) but since they're protected he can't just put out traps that kill them, which I guess is ok, but that probably means another few sleepless nights. And I seem to have mouse droppings now in greater frequency than I've ever had and I've been in this house over 25 years! I think they're coming in however the squirrel is. My bedroom is right off the kitchen area and I just hate the thought of all that activity going on in the dark (I left lights on all night! LOL).

Bottom line it all will mean more money. Just paid for unexpected expenses on the car (and it still needs the work I already knew it needed), and now this. But I've got to find out how those critters are getting in and stop them before winter or my house will become their hotel! So tomorrow morning before the exterminator comes I've got to (on top of getting up early, which most of us know is tough even if you've slept well) I've got to move some things so they can get to the attic, and around some other areas in the house. Only other chronic pain patients know what stress this brings.

Got to hope I'm exhausted tonight and that the drugs WORK and put me to sleep early!

Sorry for more whining...sigh...

Yep, PaLady, you are right about the living alone thing. It does add complications to living with a chronic condition. I'd give anything just to have someone to empty the washing machine! That about does me in - is it bad for you?

Did the exterminator come? I really wish I could have loaned you my dad for a little while! I hope it wasn't too costly, but I bet it would be a relief to be rid of the creepy critters! I hope you can get some sleep now! My creepy critters are still around, unfortunately. We've set more traps, and probably will just have to keep doing that until (hopefully) they all get GONE. It can't happen fast enough, if you ask me.

Ok, well, I really hope you are able to sleep well. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi, Ry,
Yep, the traps are set and I await....the snaps? shocked But it is the time for mice to get in, and the exterminator said he goes to million dollar homes and they have mice. Takes such a small hole for them to squeeze through. I've gotten better at setting traps or glue strips for them and emptying (like I said with the tongs! rolleyes) but this squirrel (or whatever) ....well, I'm not the woman for that job! nono

Usually it takes until the cold really settles in for most of the mice to be gone. This is the time of the year they come in a lot, with the nights getting cool. I've had to take all the food I had sitting on the counters and pitch a lot of it, and "secure" the rest. But I know they can get into cupboards, too! Those sneaky Wilson relatives! smhair

I see you posted on the Beach Party thread so I'll hop over there to check it out!
