It seems like lots of us have doctor's appointments this week and many of us have been having a rough time with our pain flaring lately. My flare has settled down again, but I am definitely not back to my "normal" maintenance mode - which isn't all that great either to tell the truth. I am seeing the neurosurgeon on Friday. This is the 3rd or 4th surgeon I'll have seen, but the first who is affiliated with a teaching university (which unfortunately means a very long drive to get there).

Anyhow, I was wanting to check and see how some of you were doing... PaLady, I know you had some appointments this week too, Chutzie is hopefully going to get another referral from her PCP, Lara you've had those injections, and I know there are more of you... But I couldn't figure out what post to put it in, so I thought I'd start a new post! If an of you feel like it, maybe you can pop in and let us know how your appointments went and if you are feeling any better. I'm hoping you are all doing well!

Great idea, Ry! idea

I did have an appointment with my PCP (her Nurse practitioner) - a follow up on yet another area of my body that's starting to create problems. Had to have a bunch of tests because since my fusion surgery nearly a year ago my left ankle continues to stay swollen despite PT and other treatments. I've never had cardiovascular problems, but the surgery apparently might have affected something (let alone the stress of chronic pain!). So I had some blood work (which fortunately came back great - no cholesterol or other problems) and some arterial and venous tests but those all came back negative. But she wants me to see a cardio. specialist just to rule anything out, and to try to figure out what happened. So let's add another doctor to the list!! Next week I see my gyn for my annual, and my neurologist, and somewhere in the middle of all this my neurosurgeon wants me to have another X-ray to check the position of all the screws and hardware. Geesh! Is that enough doctors? smhair

And of course there's the co-pay with each one. shocked It wouldn't be so bad if we all ended up feeling good, right? rolleyes

So looks like you're up next on Friday, Ry! Be sure to check in!

Great idea and an easier way to keep up with whats what with everyone.

I go back to pain mangement on the 15th. So as to docs still doing PT 3x a week and waiting to see pain man. doc. Still in pain, legs still weak, neck and shoulder is still bothering me, still tingling and numbeness in left arm but not as bad.  My pain is deff. the worst at night both with lower back and neck.    I used to love the nights, now I just dread them as I am still not getting much more than 3 to 4 hrs at night and with the start of school it makes it worse as I have to get up at 5 with kids for school.

Been doin some streches at night and they help but as soon as I stop pain is back sighsss.  Wonder if I could hire someone to come in a just massage me intil I was asleep god sounds like heaven doesnt it!

Sure does, Lady! So when we're all living together we'll get massage therapists along with maids!

I totally LOVE the idea of the condo where we can all share the expenses and hang out and laugh the pain away!

I'm up now with the back keeping me from sleeping, which might actually be good as tomorrow (well...later today, I guess smilewinkgrin) is my neuro appointment. Maybe he'll be able to see a little bit of what it's really like. Who knows?

It's out of town, so I won't be able to check back in until Saturday night. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Ry,
I hope all goes well tomorrow. At least I hope this is one of the "good" doc visits as opposed to the other. I'll be sending you positive energy - if I can muster up some! It's the middle of the night and I had to scout out my bedroom and have the door closed and will pretty much lock myself in for the remainder of the night! shocked You know why! smhair

Will look for you to post later in the weekend to let us know how your doc appointment went! yeah

Ry,
Noticed you were posting at about the same time I was. So you're back from your doc's appointment. How did it go? I understand if you're not up for talking about it for any number of reasons! smilewinkgrin

Exterminator came today. No results yet...lots of traps set. I thought of you as he had to strong arm me into allowing him to place a big trap in my living room, but the rest of the traps are in the attic. It's amazing how phobic I am about this stuff. I nearly go into panic mode - how silly!! But I knew you'd understand. Trouble is he couldnt' see anyplace they were getting in from the outside although he's going to look more later in the week when he returns to check the traps. I also didn't realize how much $$ this was going to cost. Probably could have flown your father here! rolleyes

Ah, life. shakehead

Well, the appointment is done, and hmmm... I think idea maybe it went well! shocked We'll see. It was kind of a surreal day, actually. I was early for the appointment by nearly an hour since I didn't know for sure where I was going and was coming from another town, and the receptionists were super nice and chatted with me as I stood and sat and stood and sat and paced and sat and stood again. They were pretty sweet. Then the nurse came and got me 5 minutes EARLY! shocked and said (I kid you not) "I am so sorry we kept you waiting!" shocked I was like "is this really a doctor's office?"

After I got to the room, the doc's nurse practitioner was with me in minutes and proceeded to spend almost 30 minutes with me just listening and talking to me about my pain history. It was the first time someone has really listened, I think. After that, the doc came in and did a brief exam and chatted with me about next steps. This part was pretty brief, but only because my PM had failed to send him ANY of my records or images and had not told me to bring them either. Consequently, this doc was really unable to make any definitive diagnoses or make any serious treatment plans until he has all the information.

So... I have to wait for the neurosurgeon to get all the scans and such (he also took a couple x-rays before I left) before I find out what happens next. rolleyes I did like this office. The doc seemed pretty good and the nurse practitioner was excellent, so I am hopeful that they will figure out some way to help me. This appointment did also serve to remind me that my PM is really not someone I want to hang with long term, though. It seems pretty ridiculous to me that she wouldn't have taken care of the records thing. eyes Oh well... par for the course, right?

Anyhow, thanks all for your thoughts and well wishes. I will look forward to hearing from each of you about your coming visits too.

Ry,
Just one more reason to get away from that PM of yours! I have leanred (the hard way) to do my best to take copies of all necessary records, MRI films and reports, etc. in my hand when I go to specialists for my first appointment. All too often I've found just like you did - things didn't get there. Either they weren't sent, or if they were faxed they're in a pile somewhere. It's a royal pain to do, but we wait so long (and in your case travel so far) for these specialist appointments that it's well worth it. But I'm glad they seemed nice. A lot of docs would have just refused to see you without the reports - so that's a good sign!

Yes, this PM is just worthless. I'm kind of tied to her until this neurosurgeon makes his treatment plan, since she is my referral doc, but after that I need to cut her loose! I think what frustrates me the most is that I do know I should have taken the stuff with me. I have it all at home - copies of everything! And I know better. I usually bring it all with me to every new doctor. I just made the mistake of trusting this PM when she said her office would take care of everything. nono Live and learn. You are right, though. It says good things about the neuro that they didn't just kick me to the curb when I showed up without the info. blush

Some day, if I ever do finally get to return to health and living my life again, I hope I can find a way to advocate for or help others navigate this minefield. People like us - who are doing it all alone - in particular.

Ry,
I hope you didn't think I was judging you for not taking all the reports and such. It is such a pain in the neck to do all that! So it's perfectly understandable that maybe part of your brain just didn't have the energy! yeah

And yes, I hear what you say about advocating esp. for those of us who are alone. On top of the health there's the finances and both of those pack a punch! smhair

Today I found my car had a flat tire - in my dirveway - so I had to call AAA to put the doughnut spare on and in the morning (hopefully, before my GYN appointment and a couple of hours of work) I have to see if I can get someplace to check the flat tire. It just seems to never end! shakehead

It's lousy that you're tied to that PM, but I do understand. It's sad that we CPP's can't just up and leave a doc without all kind of things be interpreted - or should I say misinterpreted!

Hope you got a little peace today....in the chocolate hot tub! smilewinkgrin

No worries, PaLady... thought never entered my mind!

What a bummer about your tire! sad I'm sitting here right now listening to "scampering" in my ceiling. You're right - never ends, does it? rolleyes

I'm totally heading for the chocolate hot tub! Don't you wish we could just live there sometimes??

Oh, doctor's appointments. Ever have one you think is going to be just a normal, average, everyday run of the mill check up (as opposed to the heavy duty ones we usually have), but it turns into one where you're walking out with yet more slips for tests. More phone calls to make to insurance companies for authoritizations. Sigh.... shakehead

Not even worth the details, but I guess it just made me realize what most of us already know - how much my life is dictated by doctors and health care and medications and tests, etc, etc, etc, All of this is added to my car problems, "doctor" appointments for my car, and so far failed attempts to stop the scampering in my attic despite several traps being set by a professional exterminator. Is there an emoticon for screaming? smhair

I'm not even done for the week. See my neurologist on Friday. Anyone else had appointments this week? "Mom" is in the hospital getting her trial. Seems like there was someone else.

Ry - we need another party thread. Or something. Maybe just a night around the campfire thread on a "prn" basis? idea rolleyes

PaLady
I think I may just go heat up the Smuckers hot fudge topping and eat it. Forget the ice cream. Eat the whole jar of chocolate sauce! turn

OK, PaLady... I'm on it! You are absolutely right. We need a new party thread and I'm tellin' ya here and now that I'll have up and running by the end of the week.

(On a practical note, just for a second... did you email the mods first and tell them the idea & get permission then post, or post & just fill them in on why? I want to be sure I don't post something that gets pulled...)

Those kind of doctor's appointments are the worst. Somehow it just hits harder when you aren't prepared for it. Well, at least that's how it seems to me. OK, here's what we're going to do... (just for now...until the party thread is up and we can blow of steam there...) Go get your jar of hot fudge! I'm going to get mine too. Dig in, and really get the splurge going, and then (but only then... after our mouths are chock full of delicious hot fudge) we are both going to scream at the top of our little lungs. I'll hear you, friend. And you'll hear me. But we both know no one is going to come running to either one of us to see what's wrong, so we can just let it all out! And see, the hot fudge is going to be all, like, gurggly and messy and fun, and eventually, we might just have to laugh a little when we think about each other - standing in a kitchen screaming bloody murder with gooey delicious hot fudge dripping out of our mouths and creepy little rodents shocked running out to the woods as quick as their little feet will carry them! smhair Just say when, my dear friend, and I'm SO there! turn

Ry

btw... Yes, I thought there was someone else with an appointment this week... Lara? Was it you? Did you have a follow up about those injections? Scarred? What's the situation with your referral and the move? PaLady, do let us know how the neuro goes on Friday, too. I'm still waiting to hear from the neurosurgeon I saw, so I guess the x-rays didn't show anything. I don't know how long it will take them to get (and then review) all the other scans and such.

Pam! I saw in another thread that you have a PM appointment tomorrow. Do let us know how it goes! I see you've mentioned the pain pump a lot. Are you thinking about getting one? We'll be thinking of you tomorrow. Hope it goes well.

Yes, I saw that Pam has an appointment tomorrow? Thursday? Geesh I just read it and I can't remember from five minutes ago. rolleyes

Ry - when I started the Beach Party it was spontaneous so I didn't check with the mods, but it probably can't hurt. If you recall in the first post on the thread I reminded everyone about following the rules, because I didn't want it to get out of hand (which it almost did) and then it would be locked or deleted by a mod or the admin. Since Lindaloo and Chutz were both aware of the Beach Party thread (LIndaloo was part of the second one) it maybe can't hurt to e-mail her your idea. It doesn't have to be anything complicated. I'm just up for a place we can eat chocolate together!! turn yeah

Ok, I'm off to the kitchen to heat the fudge sauce, stuff my mouth and scream at the critters in my attic. smhair Unfortunately, my screaming at them hasn't worked to date, but I haven't tried it with a mouth full of chocolate! devil

Gee thee to the chocolate sauce, Ry, Lara and whoever!

Hy Ry and all the rest of you I wish I had read this thread before I posted on the pain pump thread. I just vented about all my appts. tests and so on, and I'm sorry to see everyone else is basically having to do the same thing. Something in the air I guess. I can't believe how many people in my own family are having surgery in the next few weeks. My mom, brother in law, best friend, mother in law and the list goes on. Talk to you later. This party idea sure seems worth looking into.
Take care,

Hello all ,

I have my appointment with my pain management doc tomorrow, they called to comfirm on friday and I asked if I was to get the 3rd injection as I havent had much help with the 2nd....and they said  yes...I told them that I have had some reliefe with pain but I am having alot of lef weekness and seems to keep getting worse sighsss. I cant stand up for more than 10 mins and forget walking for any amount of time( I have been using a cane when I have to walk)

Still got the same answer from the nurse she sais yes will be getting 3rd injection and to consult doc about leg weekness. sighssss can I just say I am so sick of doctors at this point!

Heres a question for whom ever it applys....I was told you can only get 3 injections within a 6 month period but I have run into several people that told me that they have had 4 or 5 injections all about 2 weeks apart.  My question is has anyone had more than the 3 injections within the 6 month period and if so why? And why have some gotten more and some are told only 3?

Next question is would anyone know why I am having so much leg weekness? It seems like thats getting worse, as the day goes on my legs get weeker and weeker and they basicaly feel like jelly and they shake.

and Just to let you all know if I dont get any reliefe from this shot and if leg weekness continues I will be making an appointment with either a neurologist or neuro surgen to get a second O.  I feel like im just being givin shots and the doc isnt listening to me about anything else and I so didnt like his explaintion about it being a wild fire that needs to be put out a litttle at a time.

Thanks hope all of you are well and having a low pain day
Lara
