the two middle fingers of my right hand feel warmth but the things (like the keys I'm typing on now) are not warm. They also feel warm when touching each other, but the skin does not feel warm when I put the fingers to my lips, rather the warmth seems internal. This started last week, never before.

Hi capta,

And welcome to the forum. Is this causing you any pain? Are they swollen? Sometimes warmth occurs in an area where there is infection or something going on internally. If it was me I'd get to the doc and let him/her take a look.

Good luck,

No swelling, no injury, no infection, no pain. I just could not find a forum for the problem & this seemed closest.

Maybe nerve damage? Do you have Lupus? Lupus causes your hands to burn.

nope, never had an injury that could have caused nerve damage to the hand or arm & not discolored.
the sensation is only on the finger tips & inside of the two fingers, not on the sides touching the index & pinky fingers. can be quite extreme at times bordering on pain, but not painful really. seems to be getting stronger & more frequent, but that could be because I'm more aware now, not as dismissive?
Thanks for the replies, all.

Hi,

I get something similar every once in a while. I can have ice cold hands, but then all of a sudden one or 2 fingers will suddenly get very warm. And it's similar to what you describe. It doesnt really feel warm on the outside skin, though it does feel warmer than my other ice cold fingers. But inside, it sometimes actually feels hot. I dont' have any pain or discoloration with it either. It lasts for a little while, then goes away back to the way the rest of my hands/fingers feel. I always thought it was quite strange and when I tell other people, they look at me like I'm nuts! lol  I have no clue what it could be related to, if anything, though. Just wanted to share my similar experience.

I have a lot of hand issues and the reason I asked about discoloration is because when I was younger, I would have that feeling but just thought hmm ok that is odd but didn't really think much about it. As the years progressed I started losing feeling in my fingers when they got cold and then eventually I started having discoloration to go along with the numbing. It was then that I was diagnosed with Raynauds. I'm not saying this is what you have but it can be a possibility. Or even arthritic in nature even if you don't have any swelling, arthritis can make your skin hypersensitive at times.

I have the same feeling but just in my left index finger. It comes and goes with no discoloration and no external warmth. Nor do I have any pain...simply warmth in the pad of my finger. Very strange. I remember having a shooting pain in my back several weeks ago and when I turn my neck in certain positions (like a pinched nerve) but the finger thing doesn't seem to directly occur as a result of this...it's just from time to time at no particular moment with no particular cause.

Keep me posted if anyone finds anything out. Mine has only been occurring for at most a week. But several times a day.

Hi all, please advise if you have come to a conclusion regarding the fingers. For the past 2 weeks I have been experiencing the same feeling in my left middle & ring fingers, a sudden feeling of warmth on the inside, with coolness on the outside, almost as though circulation has been pinched off & then suddenly the flow of blood is back. A year ago I accidentally pushed a thin screwdriver through the inside of my ring finger so that it protruded between my knuckles on the other side, but surely nerve damage would have been evident immediately?

Thanks

My Dr just suggested Reynauds as quite possible for me as well. He said the problems with my hands becoming warm and throbbing and then very cold and extremely painful is due to something with the capilaries (sp?). I'm waiting anxiously for a reumy apt and hope to find the answers. The funny feeling of the heat and slight pain has been going on for years....the cold/hot and extreme pain has been on and off for over a year now. I'll keep this posted when I find out for sure so that everyone can have the info.

Not trying to be funny or arrogant or anything, but could it be a -- splinter? Also, are you on Topomax or anything similar? That drug did crazy wild things to my fingers.
