shakehead  Hi everybody...I just happened upon this wonderful site and have spent the past few days going through the threads..WOW!!!
Here is my story: X  I am a 41 yr. old female, single mom of a 15 yr. old son, just moved back in with mom after being on my own for a very long time.  I had my first problem with my lower back when I was about 20, went through PT for a long time with minimal results, low pain pills from Ortho doc.  I couldn't stand up straight for 6 months and after almost 2 years of pain they finally said I had Bulging discs but wouldn't do surgery until they ruptured.  Well, now it's 1993 and I am pregnant.  I was considered "high risk" and they had me on Lortab 10's throughout and after I had my son.  Now it's 1998, and I have just moved to Nashville and finally met an Orthopedic Dr. that wanted to do surgery.  I was so happy that I would finally be out of pain.  I had a Lamenectomy and no relief.  They daid I had permanent nerve damage, spinal stenosis, DDD, Spondylosis, ahhh the list goes on and on.  At the time I didn't know about Pain Doctors so I suffered for years with docs that would treat me for a while then tell me I needed to get off the meds.  Who hasn't been through that one? Three yrs. ago I had spinal fusion with my own bone material they took out L4-S1.  I thought that would do it.  No...That surgeon sent me to my Pain doc I have now.  So far it's been okay, I have been on the same meds for 2 years with hardly any change.  120 mg. methadone daily, and Lortab 10 3xdaily for BT. The PA that I have seen for the past 3 years has left and I am seeing someone that I don't know this week.  I want to talk about some of the things I read here about trying something new but I don't know if I should wait until next month???Maybe feel this new one out first?  I have always been leary about asking for meds.  They  had me on Hydrocodone for a long time and switched me to the methadone when it wasn't helping.  I guess I'm afraid they'll tell me that I am on the most pain meds I can be on and they might get rid of me.

Any advice would be helpful....

Hi, Uniquelyme,
I want to welcome you to the HW chronic pain forum. My thinking is pretty foggy tonight, so I doubt I'd give you a decent response. Off the top of my head I would say it couldn't hurt to at least ask what options you have regarding pain management. It may even give you an idea of the new doc/PA's preferences, limitations, etc., and how much he/she is willing to work with you.

I hope others will give you a better response than I have, but I did want to say hello It is a great group of people for support.
