nono   Hello all.  I had to go to the ER last night....cut my thumb wide open and needed stitches, anyway.  When I went into the triage area to give info. I of course told them about the meds I take.  No biggie, I wasn't after anything.  So, when the PA finally gets in there to stitch me up she looks at my chart....for a long time..then starts telling me about how she crushed her right leg and had soo many months of PT and about the screws, nuts, bolts, and gaskets....she had put in her leg...How they told her she was never gonna walk again...so on and so forth.
Then she starts ranting about patients that come in here, on all kinds of pain meds, that don't work, and sit around collecting disability.  She then goes on to tell me how she NEVER took NARCOTICS (except after surgery)and that all she took was Motrin.
I wonder WHY she was saying this to me?  Was she preaching?  Was she trying to tell me that I am a loser that could work if I really wanted too?

How horrible! She might have been trying to inspire you but I would have been rather insulted. Apparently she knows nothing of the issues you deal with and mistook chronic or acute...

I am sorry you dealt with such an insensitive person!

In the United States today, there is a pervasive tendency to treat children as adults, and adults as children. The options of children are thus steadily expanded, while those of adults are progressively constricted. The result is unruly children and childish adults. ~Thomas Szasz

Insult on top of injury. Now we know where the phrase comes from, right?

I don't know what has happened to health "care" here in the U.S. and I'm a health care provider - although on my last legs of working. And what do I have to look forward to? Pain AND poverty. Because we all know how SSD here leaves you rolling in wealth, right?

Sorry, I'm getting a little testy these days. I have about had it with the health care system I used to love to be a part of.

You would think that people in the health care industry would understand. It's such a shame that a small minority of people who abuse the meds that we need to function shape how socitey views us.

smilewinkgrin   Not even my closest friends or family give me the support that total strangers do here in this Forum....You guys are more like family...even in the short time I've been coming here...
thanks  blush
Anyway. You are all right!!! That PA had no right or reason to preach to me about the horror that be "PAIN MEDICATIONS".  All she did was read about a paragraph about the meds I take.  She doesn't even know WHY I take them...For all she knows my entire body is made up of nothing but metal and screws....That would make it ok I guess...
People used to surprise me with the things they say....Not anymore, and that's sad shakehead .
We, CP people, are judged almost inhuman....Not that we are the only ones, everybody that takes, has taken, or might take narcotics BEWARE!!!!  And be prepared to defend yourself...
That's all...no more ranting....for right now anyway.

uniquelyme dont ever let anyone make you feel bad for taking meds. that you have to just to have a almost normal life.Thay can never understand how it is to live with pain that never stops.Try to just let it go in one ear and out the other when thay talk like that.Having real bad pain that last for a little while is so muth diffrent then having to live with it for months and years.I was one tuff lady before but I could not go without my pain patch and have any quality of life
Lost half of my small intestineJan.2008.Ilieostomy for 5 months then reverst in June 2008,Nerve damage to right leg, part of my right hip bone removed Jan. 2008,Cronic pain, hernia, infection in my back called discites, and depression.Gallbladder removed Nov,2008.Mother to 9 kids 7 boys 2 girls and 1 stepson.4 grandsons,9 grandaughters.4 of my grandkids I inherited from my twin sister who passed away 6 1/2 years ago from a blood clot after surgery.God has given me my life back after I almost lost it.Even though its a painful and sometimes hard road to walk I take it one step at a time and give thanks to god for every step I take.

yeah  ere's how just lil' ole' me sees it. She probably lost her disability hearing. I wonder if she's ever even been to one? Little more to it than one might imagine. Her opinion and she's entitled to it. Now, as for you...you went and proved that you were ENTITLED to SSDI. SSDI is an entitlement not as the ignorant see it, a hand out. You had to meet the threshold of all SSA requirements to even be considered to receive benefits. Did she pay your FICA taxes? Has she even for a nanosecond ever walked in your shoes? Is she a Federal Judge, moonlighting as a physicians assistant? She can keep her lil' ole bum leg propped up in the air, eating bon bons, in her ignorant world. I'm no better than her, that's just my lil' ole' opinion. There is but one true Judge and he doesn't work for the government...dido.

Disabled individual learning to live life again no matter what chronic pain or other obstacles stand in the way. Opinionated and you no what they say about opinions. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is not guaranteed, and today is a gift, that's why it's called the "Present."
