I did not see a topic to use for my problem but it does cause cronic pain so if you can help thank you.
I have found painful tender lumps (small) within the skin resting on my ribs.  The doctor told me they were probably fibroids.  He did not really give me any insight as to how I got them or how to get rid of them.  He did not show any concern and said they were just below the skin but not attached to any organs.  Can anyone help me?  I could find nothing on the internet about them except uterine fibroids.  I can move them back and forth with my fingers as well.  They are not attached to the ribs just rest on top of them.  They are painful and I have several on both sides.

Thanks

Mexximelt,
I think I remember your earlier post about this. Did he say they were benign? If it was me, I think I'd want to know something more definitive, which I'm guessing you do or you wouldn't be posting. Is your doctor a PCP? If so, maybe a referral to a specialist but I'm not sure who. Perhaps even a surgeon who might try to biopsy one, unless your doctor knows for sure they're benign growths. I know I have small cysts on a couple of my knuckles which my hand specialist said were arthritis related and he wouldn't suggest trying to remove them unless they gave me problems or became too painful, which they're not. They're more annoying (I've got bigger fish to fry in the pain department!). But the location of yours is very different.

I wish I could help more.

Thank you for your reply.  No I have not posted about this before.  I am sure I have posted other pain concerns about my cronic back pain but this is new.  This whole thing started with pain under my right rib including pain under left rib and stomach problems.  I had an ultrasound of all organs including blood work up for liver and pancreas with no results.  I was thinking it was my gallbladder but nothing showed up.  Then suddenly these lumps showed up.  I still have stomach problems and can't eat anything that people with gallbladder problems cant eat but cant afford the test to see if it is working properly (no insurance).  I just can't believe it is not all related in some way but the doctor (GP) is not concerned.  I read a horrible article about something called Desmoid tumor that freaked me out a little.  Yes, like you not sure what kind of doctor to see.  Thanks again.

hi mexximelt, your name sounds so yummy i love gooey cheesy mexican food. yum! i have those "knots" all over too..... my pain dr told me they are from tears in your muscles. i assume from muscle spasms. i was freaked out when they began showing up all over my back & ribcage. the only thing i have found to help is get a really good masseuse & have them work at the knots. its painful, i usually take all my pain meds about 30 min in advance (i normally space out my med an hour apart so i don't get a buzz) so they kick in when the masseuse begins to work. (for those who don't know this trick, rubbing your back helps increase blood flow & make the meds work faster) they can be a little painful to the touch, but don't worry too much about it.... only worry if they are really hard & get larger. my close friend had cancer & i can only describe it a feeling like a small rubber ball under the skin. those knots you should get some attention. now i am no dr, make sure you address it at your next apt. only letting you know what i have experienced. :)

Kttn's post made me wonder - could they be lactic acid build up? Maybe asking a good PT or massage therapist would be worth it - to see if these lumps feel familiar and if it's just lactic acid it's painful but I don't think life threatening. But again, I'm just speculating.
