Awe, Kara, so sorry you've been dx'd with Costochrondritis.
If you have fibro it's kinda linked with fibro and it hurts like
heck can make ya feel like your having a heart attack as it hurts
so much, I get this from time to time too.
1. Pain meds won't help much for it.
2. try getting a moist/heat pad, gently fold it in half,
plug it in, turn it on and press it to your chest, this will help
the most.
3. I know it's hard to be told this, but this can come on with emotions,
so you have to try to keep as calm as possible and try to medatite(spelled off)
and get relaxed as best as you can...
Sure hope this helps you out, hope your feeling better soon, till
then lots of soft hugz......

P.S.
Pain can last for for a few days, it has with me, but it goes
almost as quickly as it comes on, seems weird in that way.........

I've had costo flairs last for weeks. It stinks.

Like Chartreux said, use a heating pad, it helps. Many people with fibro have it. If you do a search, you'll find far too many threads on it. Stress makes mine worse. I've gone months without much pain but it always comes back. On the positive side, the flairs aren't as bad as they used to be; less pain and shorter.

I'm always afraid that I'll think I'm having a costo flair when it's really a heart attack.

Hi Kara,

I don't know anything about costo, so unfortunately I can't help you with any suggestions or advice, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am that you are having increased pain. Chest pain is a really scary thing!! I had severe chest pain once when I was 12 or so, and went to see my doc who thought I might have been having a heart attack (very unusual, but not unheard of at that age). I could barely breathe or sit up straight. I just remember the car ride to the doctor was horrible. Fortunately, the ER checked me out & everything was okay. I forget what they said it was, but fortunately it went away in about a day.

I hope your chest pain resolves soon! I'm glad you got it checked out & you are okay! Take it easy!

Another thing that works with the costo is a nice warm bath. It really puts the damp heat where it's needed :)

Skeye ... That sounds like a panic attack. I had one a year ago, Thought I was
having a heart attack. My doctor said that panic attacks can manifest as many
different kinds of illnesses. I'm just guessing.

Oh Kara, You have enough things already that hurt. You don't need one more thing.
You just don't! Stay warm. Watch TV. I guess that moist heat is really important.
I use a ho***er bottle a lot for my shoulder. Sometimes it's all I want. Do you
try Ben Gay or Tiger Baum? They help me but I don't have costochondritis.

Kara,
We've taken all the little things over -- my tons of art, my dying plants, my "junk"
as my husband calls it.
The movers come tomorrow and will take the big stuff. I'll be gone fror the computer
for awhile. I'll hate that.
I'm glad you're doing all those heat things and I'm so pleased you don't plan to
use the heat pad in the bathtub. (That made me laugh)
You need more Oxycodone, I think. You probably have reached tolerance. I
hope you have a GOOD doctor. I do.
I'm doing ok. At night when I've been working in the cold I feel like my arm is
falling off. I'm sure at that time I'll need surgery. I take some meds, sleep in
my chair with the electric blanket and hot water bottle and I wake up fine. Sleep
is what mends me. Sleeeeep ... so important. Get that Phenergan!
Later Kara and all. I'm off to a new land.
