Just make sure that no matter what you decide you go to some kind of counsiling or Intensive outpatient treatment groups. I'm on Suboxone, have you looked into that?? It has a better reputation then Methadone and it's alot easier to wean off of.

LOL, I feel like I'm the "Suboxone Messanger", I'm out here to spread the word.... I really think it's not advertised enough, and anyone who has to be weaned off of opiates because of choice, or made to do cause of doctors, or cause their tolerence has turned into addiction should know about their choices. I got a very high tolerence and where I live theirs only 2 pain doctors and one doesnt take my insurance or take cash and the other I got in a fight with because he called me fat (I'm 5'6 and weigh 155lbs, which is not fat to me) and he kept suddenly droping my dose then building me back up to a stronger dose and then suddenly drop me again, so I told him off. And I have been on strong narcotics since I was 19, I'm 25 now and wanted to know exactly how much pain I'm really in, and how much my brain was tricking me into thinking I was in. But in order for my insurance to pay for the Suboxone, which is over $700 out of pocket I had to do Intensive OutPatient groups and have learned so much about dug addiction it made me want to learn alot more about it and I hope to someday work in a Inpatient rehab. I've learned that reguluar people get addicted too and it surprises me who and what they really are, and not those street homeless people and teeenagers, they are teachers, and lawyers, and people with lots of money, just people you wouldn't expect it from. Anyways, thats my story. Ihope everyone has a LPD.

I have may have missed this, but tell us again WHY you are being weaned off of the oxys?? was it your choice, or your doctor's?

I did thanx I noticed the panic disorder forum. I also was gonna do that, let my sister in law hold onto the pills for me cuz I know she would never give them to me except everyday. I also suffer from severe migraines, and cluster headaches. I wanted to wean off this myself and my doc is helping me by reducing the dose by ten milligrams every two weeks.

Well I hope everything works out for you, I too tried weaning off the pain meds and it never worked, my pain got out of control and I got a severe migraines, dirrhea, heartburn, restless legs, severe anxiety, all those fun stuff. But like I said, methadone is a good option cause it works for pain but going their every morning for your dose seems like torture to me, but since it's a scheaduled 2 drug it has to be administered in a clinic unless your doctor gives it to you for pain, but weaning off of methadone hurts as much as oxys plus a longer withdrawals. Suboxone is used for pain when taken at smaller doses every 4-6 hours, and when weaned right the withdrawals are very minimal and can usually be tolerated very well. I too also suffer from severe migaines and cluster headaches but once I Started the Subs they suddenly seemed to disappear, where I use to ge thtem 3-4 times a week on the methadone and oxys, to now where I've only had one since starting the Suboxone 6 months ago. I know that taking narcotics can cause rebound headaches/migraines, and withdrawals will make them worse, but eventually they get better. I would just research your options before you relapse, because theirs so many options out there, even for us who dont have a addiction but have a dependence but want off of pain meds. I see a addiction specialist who has been great to me, maybe look into one of them, like stated before they do know how to help chronic pain too. I have to drive an hour and half to see mine and pay $131 out of pocket but he's worth every penny!!

I never heard of amino acid protocol, but if works then it wouldn't hurt to try, theirs also meds to help with withdrawals, like clonodine. Just dont take benzos cause that comes with it's own set of issues. Vitamins I heard can help too, also excersizing to get your natural endorphins going, and lots and lots of fluids. Also when your tempted to take more meds then you need try something to get your attention on something else to get your mind off of them, like watching movies or going out for a walk, spending time with friends.

I found that 30mg worked better, i'm having too many side effects from it, and the doctor said that with cymbalta the side effects just get worse as you get on a higher dose and only like 5% better on the depression, so I'm thinking that when I go to get a refil tomorrow I'm gonna ask them to refill the 30mg ones and not the 60mg.

Welcome to HW GetMe, sorry you are feeling poorly. I had a stomach virus so badly that I couldn't keep my meds down, which resulted in withdrawls & the withdrawls were terrible! I really thought I was going to die. After abother round of being sick, they got some meds in me...& I thought I had gone to heaven. Please follow your drs orders directly! Your dr has you setup these meds for a reason, and I doubt that its going to be easy to just come off that level of oxys. Let us know how it goes! Good luck, we are here for you!
RX's: Oxycontin 80 MG 2x's daily; Dilaudid 8 MG 4xs daily; Zanaflex 4mg 3x's daily; Restoril 15mg 1x; Soma 3x's daily; Lyrica 100 MG 3x's daily (pain & fibro.); Phenergan 25 MG (as needed); Amitriptyline 25 MG 1x (chronic pain); Cymbalta 60mg 2x's daily (pain from fibro); Metoclopram (as needed) & Senokot (as needed).
