I live in WA state and my PM doctor was raided last week by the DEA. His office is now closed and I have been seeing him for 3 years now for treatment of my pain in my back, neck and legs due to an accident. I also suffer from chronic pain all over my body. I had an appointment today to fill my 15mg Oxycodones (#120/mo) and his office was closed until further notice. I am in so much pain and have medical insurance thru my work, but have no idea where I can find a doctor in WA state to help me. As I am sure many of you can understand, if I dont get my medication soon, I will be a mess. Can someone please PM me a doctor that specializes in pain medicine (not BS topical treatments) in my area that I can visit soon to help me get my medications? It is so sad that we live in a day and age where we have to go to these extremes to get the help we need with pain, but I am desperate here and could really use some help from you guys to get me set up again with pain medicine. I have tried searching for pain clinics, but am afraid I will go there and be turned away with crap that doesnt work for my intense pains. Will someone please help me? I really appreciate any and all info you guys can give me to narrow my search.
Thanks to all!

It might help if we knew what part of WA State you live in?

Frankfooteer..

Your doc should have someone covering for him. If not, call your primary care doc and ask him/her what they recommend. They might be able to set you up with another PM doc in an emergancy appt.

Thanks for the replies guys! Sorry, I live in the Puyallup (near Tacoma) area of WA state. I have contacted my former Dr.'s phone line and all the information they have is that he has closed until further notice. I called my insurance company and we called about 8 "pain management" physicians, and none of them said they would prescribe meds. What country do we live in?!? Cant even get help with meds I have been taking for years, have insurance and still have these problems? We might as well be Columbia! I found one guy that I had to go to his office pay $100 deposit and he is not a "preferred provider" so I have to pay cash, and then hopefully my insurance will pay me back in 30 days (thats what the receptionist said). So basically I got to bring $400 with me tomorrow for this appt and may not even get help with meds. Anybody live out here that can help find someone that is not chicken crap of government? This is terrible! I cant believe this is even America anymore. Worst health care in the world. period!

Frank I am so sorry that you are having so many problems. I am sure that all will be made clear to you once the DEA has completed their miles of red tape and stacks and stacks of paperwork that your doc was doing something illegal or didn't cross a t or dot an i somewhere and that is why he got hurt out of this. In the meantime do you have a primary doctor that you see for your other health concerns? If so they might be willing to steer you in the right direction or even go as far as to write your scripts for you a few times until they can help you find a doctor. Secondly if this does not work last resorts are too head for the ER they surely have some notion of a specialist that can help you in your time of need. Or maybe there is a Doctors referral line there that can assist you in trying to locate a PCP doctor? Just some suggestions.

Hope you find one soon. Best Wishes on your quest.

Frankfooter,

Maybe your approach is putting the docs off. instead of calling asking if the will RX you something, call and explain the situation and see how quickly they can get you in. Do you happen to have a copy of your medical chart? If not, I would get ahold of one ASAP in case something like this ever happens again,

Take care,
Sarrah

I agree I would be explaining what has tranpsired with your doc
and that you need to see a doctor asap .........

THat just might work alot better than asking if they RX pain meds..........

I wish you all the best

Have you called your local hospital(s) to ask what Pain Specialists they have on staff?
Sometimes the insurance companies categorize pain specialists as anesthesiologists so there might still be some people out there, but they were in a different category.

Here's to hoping ...

Only thing I can think of is try going to www.webmd.com
in searching for a doctor, you might also want to look up
PM Doctors under your insurance carrier, as it always helps
going to doctor that takes your insurance..
Good Luck in your quest...

frank,
I am so sorry that you are in this predicament. It's truly terrible. It's a torture.
You have had a lot of suggestions and will probably follow all of them. Have you
spoken with your pharmacists. Sometimes they can be your best friend and
sometimes your worst enemy.
You post is a signal for head's up to all of us. There but for fortune ...
Do you live in a large town? Is there a pain clinic where you're locacted?
You just can't be dropped like that. It 's dangerous. Inhuman.
Let us know what happens, ok?
