I am having the worst week now and I really need to vent to someone about this. For the last two refills on my Kadian my doctor's office has been either late in getting it out to me or they just forget about me entirely! Last refill the pharmacy (after being 4 days late in getting to me) only had 78 pills. Their policy at Walmart is that if you don't get the entire script refilled whether its their fault or not they will not hold it over or give you the remainder of the pills when they get them in. Now I have been using Wal-mart for the last 6 months for my scripts you would think that they would have it figured out by now that I will be coming in every 30 days for a refill on my kadian and to make sure they have it on hand. Well this time, again I am screwed! I called in the refill last Friday plenty of time for them to get the refill out to me. They called me on monday to ask me if I wanted it sent out in the mail I told them yes so the nurse said that she was only waiting for the doc to sign it and it would be in the mail probably Monday afternoon. When I did not receive it on Wednesday I called to see what was going on but no one got back to me. Thursday I called once again and the lady that I spoke to told me that they sent it out on Wednesday and then proceeded to scold me for not telling them in advance that I wanted it sent to my address. Are you kidding me???? When the other gal called on Monday she asked me if I wanted it sent out in the mail and I already told her yes so why jump my ### for not telling them I wanted it put in the mail?

Ok so now today is Friday.....and my doc closes at noon (gee must be nice to have such great hours). I went to check the mail and what do you know my script that I have been waiting for is NOT there!!!!! Now it's 2pm too late to get a hold of them and my GP won't write any more scripts for any more pain meds for me. I have exactly 3 50mg Kadian that I had kept for emergencies and 3 days before my doctor will be in her office. I don't wanna go to the ER cause I know it will be a fight and I really am not in the mood to listen to "Gee your on a lot of pills!!!" So my last resort is to spread out the 50mg pills to where I only take one in the morning when my pain is the most horrid. Hope I am ready for a horrible and painful weekend cause that is what is ahead of me. Percocets are fine I have plenty of those as I called in for a refill yesterday and it should be here Monday but I have enough to last me for another week. But....this is the second time they have cut me short. The last time (last month) I called it in 4 days in advance like they told me too and they "FORGOT" about me and the script so it was 4 days of shortened Kadian and a really wicked weekend.

I sure hope you all have a better weekend ahead then I do.

Hugs

Call or e-mail to the parent company. Heck just copy what you just wrote. You can find the e-mail site usually under the contact us portion. Use names too...that always helps. You won't believe how much service has improved for my Cimzia rx (I get it at the mail-order portion of a BIG pharmacy, and the first 3 times their service STANK). Let THEM sweat it out to their superiors. This type of service is uncalled for. (once an oversight, 2 or more times, downright disgusting)

Your rage is justified...
I know when I get worked up though, I feel even worse, and I hope that doesn't happen to you. You suffer enough...

Scarred, I have empathy for you! They really put you in a bad spot! i know that this isn't going to help you this weekend but can you change to a different pharmacy next time? If Wal-mart is going to keep doing that to you, is there any place else you can go? I hope you will be alright this weekend! Remember we have that trip to Rivendel to go on, I hope you can make it!!!
You take care of your self!

Scarred,
Oh, I sure do understand this frustration (to say the least). Someone mentioned mail order. Is that a possibility? You know, I never thought I'd consider it because I'm always afraid of things being lost, but now that I'm having my challenges with the only pharmacy my insurance lets us use, I am really thinking about it. Especially if I can get a 90 day supply. But it's scary to make that switch. Plus I don't know what happens it your doctor wants to tweak the amount or change meds - and I know you've got the stim issue coming up.

Like someone else asked, is there another pharmacy you can use? Sometimes I think maybe those places whose primary business isn't pharmacy may not know as much (not that regular pharmacies don't make mistakes). I wonder about the techs that they use, too. Even our CVS here has some young college students who are only in associate programs working there.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this junk. Keep venting if you need to! And remember - Moonlight is tonight!

Hugs to you, friend,

PaLady

Scarred,
I'm a little confused about where your script is right now.
If the doctor never got the script signed & sent out, call his answering service & tell them it's an emergency.
If it's at the Wal-Mart, call Wal-Mart & complain your way up the chain.

I don't know whether WC would cover mail-order meds. It seems they're pretty stingy about everything, but if they will cover that service I would highly recommend it. Especially with your surgery coming up. You could fill it a few weeks before your implant & then have 90 days worth of meds to last you until you can find a way to afford the next round. Just a thought. ;)

take care,
frances

Ok just to help you all understand. Wal-mart has a policy that if you only get part of your medications the rest is forfeited and you have to go back to your doctor for the remainder of the refill. When I got the script filled they told me they only had 78 pills and I called my doctor and the nurse told me that if the pharmacy faxed them a document stating that I only received 78 pills that they would send out a script to me for the remainder of the medication. So when I filled it they did this. I called my doctor on Friday to let them know I only had a week left on the 78 that was filled and the nurse called me Monday to let me know she had the script ready to go out it only needed a signature from my doctor. That was Monday....on Wednesday I called again to see where the script was when it did not get to my mail. Another lady told me (I guess there are two that handle the scripts) that it was mailed out on Wed. So here it is Friday and I am now in one hell of a pinch.

I am seriously thinking of changing pharmacies not only because of this mess but every time I go to fill my Kadian they don't have enough. It is not my job to tell them when my refills are due and I feel like I am having to do their job as well keeping a stock of Kadian for me. This is not the first time they have either not had enough or been out of Kadian and I just think that I am going to find another pharmacy. I don't know if WC would cover a mail order pharmacy but I will definitely check into it to see if they will. I tried going to the manager of the pharmacy and explaining my situation but there wasn't any sympathy there and he told me pretty much "Too bad."

Next round......I'm calling a week early for my refill (of course I called a week ago this time and look what happened) and going to state that I need it pronto.

Hugs and thank you all for your ear.

Scarred,
Switching pharmacies isn't a bad idea, as long a another pharmacy would be able to get them easier for you. In my case, it is getting nearly impossible to find a pharmacy to order the Actiq I'm on. Fortunately, no one really steals my 200mcg doses, but the 400mcg are up for grabs if it's been more than 28 days since my last refill. What I learned though was that, in my case at least, that I can tell the pharmacy to order the extra tablets right away. Then I get a printout showing how many the pharmacy actually gave me & go back to my doctor's office in a week & get a new script for however many they weren't able to fill. The insurance people don't care if I still have 2 more weeks of meds in my possession as long as I don't go over my total pill allowance for the month within any 30 day period.

I know it's an enormous hassle, but hopefully you can do the same thing if this ever happens again. The trick is to just not wait until I'm at the end of my supply before getting a second script. I know the pharmacy usually takes 8 days to get C2's stocked after an order, so I place the order right away, then call my doc & tell him I want to see him in 6 or 7 days to pick up a script for the extras. That way everything runs more smoothly.

Take care of yourself this weekend. Maybe the script will come tomorrow morning in the mail & you will still be able to get your refills. I sure hope things can work out for you.

peace,
frances

Scarred,
I don't think any pharmacy is permitted to fill a controlled substance if for some reasons it's split up. Like with the 78 pills. I'm not expressing myself very clearly, but I believe it may be a federal policy but it's definitely not just Wal-mart's. They need a new script for the remainder, like what you had to do. So if Wal-Mart is going to regularly run short you're going to have this issue, and you'll probaby have it at other pharmacies. I don't know how the W.C. will interfere with this (if you can switch to another pharmacy), but I'm sure they'll make it harder in some way.

GRRRRRR.....

Hugs to you!

The pharmacy I get my Oxcontin at, twice they did not have enough for the script, they marked it on the bottle and called me when they got the rest of it in, and then I went and picked it up! , The thing that kind of bothered me was it is a forty mile drive one way to get there! Some people have had a bit of a squabble with our pain doctor, because the pharmacy is part of the group that our pain clinic is in, and they don't usually write pain scripts to other pharmacies!, You go and see the pain doc and then go down stairs to the pharmacy and pick up your meds. Everything has electronicly been sent down, and all your meds are theree waiting for you. I don't really mind doing it that way, but some people and some of the area pharmacies have been complaining about that practice! I guess the other pharmacies feel they are being cheated out of some bussiness!

Scarred I sure hope you get through this weekend OK!
You know we are here for you!

White Beard,
Is it part of your pain contract to use their pharmacy? I know you usually have to use the same one, but I wonder if they can ethically require you to use theirs. Although in some cases it make it things easier - like when you got the rest of your script. I'll be they just got a new script from the doctor eletronically and you didn't even have to do anything.

But a 40 mile drive? That's 80 miles round trip. Wow!

Scarred, I have been reading the thread and my heart goes out to you. I know that changing pharmacies is an option but that won't get you through the weekend. If we call to get our meds early, we are criticized as abusing our meds. If we do it like they want, we can end up running out. I believe that some Drs and pharmacists don't understand the necessity of the meds and how we are not wanting them just to comfortable. I will offer a few extra prayers for you thsi weekend. Blessings!!

Scarred, I'm so sorry about this situation that you are in! What a mess!
I just switched to Wal-Mart several months ago b/c the mom & pop pharmacy that we have used for years got too expensive with our new insurance, and let me tell you, I have not been too impressed. Just this week, the pharmacist told me that I had up to 6 mo to fill my dilaudid script (I had been concerned about having been delayed by both a weekend & a snow storm, and not being able to fill the script, as it was then four days old & I had always been told that I only had 3 days to fill it, so I stopped by my doc's office to exchange the 4 day old script for a new script & they called the pharmacy first to ask if they would accept it & they said they would, so when I dropped off the script I asked the pharmacist about the time-frame to fill the script since I was kind of confused). I second guessed her multiple times, but she kept insisting it was 6 mo. That had me wondering what planet she went to pharmacy school on!? I finally just said okay & walked away.
That policy about not filling the rest of the script if THEY don't have enough on hand to fill it initially is just ridiculous!

Sending you lots of hugs!! ((((((((((((Scarred)))))))))))))). Hang in there! It won't be fun, but you'll find some way to get through this weekend!

Well when I was going to fill the last script and found out that my pharmacy only had 78 on hand I asked my doctor if I could get it from somewhere else and they were fine with that, but I do know that is one thing that was in the pain contract. If I do switch pharmacies then I am required to sign another pain contract. Anyway after calling the other pharmacy they didn't have it on hand either so I think on my next visit I am going to see if my doctor can possibly sign it for a generic form if there is one or see what we can do about making sure that I have enough from now on so that I don't run out. I do not know why they have not put it in my file that all meds need to be mailed to me but, when I see them again I am going to make sure that it is put in. I looked it up and there are three pharmacies that provide for Pratt so what I plan to do is to speak with Wal-mart and see if they can order the kadian for my refills a week before my script is due. If they are not willing to do this then I will head for another pharmacy and get my pain pills else where.

Unfortunately this does not help me this weekend. I plan to check the mail early tomorrow and pray that it is there but if not I will call my doctor on Monday and be sure that whatever happened to it gets taken care of. I don't have my scripts come to the house, they go straight to the PO Box so I don't know where they ended up. I really wish that she would give me enough to last every 6 weeks that way when I do have to refill I can just get it when I see her. This might be something to speak with them about too. Its funny cause with my old pharmacy I was able to fill my scripts without these worries. God Bless the small Mom and Pop Pharmacies!!!

Will keep you posted. Hope this weekend isn't to horrible on me. I actually got 8 hours of sleep last night!!!! My pain yesterday was down to a 5 and I have not seen one of those for a very very long time.

Anyway getting very sleepy so I will close for now.

Hugs to each of you.

Hey Scarred, all I can say is it really sucks what they did to you. Maybe you can try some relaxation exercises this weekend, deep breathing and that kind of stuff. I sure wish there was something else we could do for you. Your welcome to e-mail me if you need to vent out of this forum this weekend, I'll write you back. PALady no ethically no they can not require you to use their pharmacy, and it is not in their pain contract, I know of several local pharmacies that have went to the higher ups and complained about it, but I haven't heard of anyone getting it changed. Yes the 40 mile trip one way is a pain, it is just about all interstate, but just the same in the winter with snow and ice, and the price of gas it can be hassle. The funny thing is certain Doctors do certain procedures on certian days, Example last week I had my refill appointment with my pain Doctor on Thursday, he always does the refills on Thursdays. and it is every 4 weeks you get your refill, my Sleep apnea doc does his rechecks on Fridays, they are in the same building and belong to the same group, So Thursday I had to drive 40 miles for my refill appointment, and Friday I had to drive back again for my sleep apnea recheck! There have been time when I have had to make that drive 4 times in one week to the exact same building but to different Doctors! So that is 320 miles in on week just for Doctors appointments!

I chime in with another unbelievable White Beard! The hoops are back right? Funny (or not so much) that we have to drive hundreds of miles for appointments, pharmacies, tests and whatnot just to be disappointed once more. It truly sucks (pardon the language). I swear some times I feel like a circus act in a big three ring tent trying my best to entertain my doctors, WC and others that I am really in pain and need the treatments that I want.

It's 4:30am and gee I've been awake since 2:30am watching stupid re-runs of some idiotic shows from way back when. Woke up in so much pain that I just want to curl up in a corner and cry or scream or something. Uggggg! Hubby says if it gets too bad he's demanding that I go to the ER. Of course if it gets too bad I will even though I don't want to LOL.

Anyway, hugsss to you fatherjohn and PA

Ok now I am really confused and utterly frustrated! Thursday I had called in my Percocet refill allowing a week for them to get the script to me (I have 5 days worth left). Today I get, in my mail box a envelope from my dr office. Hey I thought its finally here!! But disappointment set in when I opened the envelope to find my percocet script ONLY! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Scarred - mad!!!

You know the only times my scripts have gotten messed up from my NS office is when the nurse who usually does them is on vacation. Course you're new with this doc. I'd definitely write him a note and tell him what has happened and ask how it can be corrected so it doesn't happen again. Probably won't help to write a nasty letter about him or his employees, but explain what a bind it put you in over the weekend, plus the Wal Mart stuff.

One thing we do all know, anger and intense emotion is going to make our pain worse, so vent here, cry, whateveer you need, but then take a few deep breaths and a nice warm bath. Resolve you have done everything you could do and since there's no more mail until Monday, do everything else that soothes you. If it gets too bad, let hubby take you to the ER without a battle. I know it's not the same as your pain meds, but staying tense for two days will only make it harder on you.

HUGS!!!

You know Scarred, PaLady has it right but please don't let the pain get to bad, before you go in, because then it is just that much harder to get back under control. I should have come and got on the computer and internet early this morning I could of kept you company scarred, but when I hurt during the night, depending if it is my upper back and arms hurting or my lower back and legs hurtiing, I either pace the floor or get in my rocking chair and rock like H*** til the Percocet kicks in, usually 30 to 40 minutes min before I start feeling it ease up. Anyway I was thinking about you and I just wanted to check in and see how you were doing, so far this weekend.

Scarred, I like others wish there was more we could do. I liked the statement from PAlady about sending a letter or note but not making it to nasty. The last time I had a problem with the pharmasist, she was being really not very nice, I looked at her and said, "It seems your having a bad day, can I pray for you?" At that point she asked me to leave and that she would call me when I meds were ready. Sometimes even being nice does not work. I wanted to reach over the counter grab her and yank her over to the other side and share with her exactly how I felt but then remembered that getting upset, angry and frustrated is bad for my pain. Rats, can't even let the frustration out the way I wanted. Any way, we care.

Well all, I am surviving so far. Things have been pretty bad and I'm not going to pretend that I'm not alright cause that would be real bad right? A thunderstorm rolled in this afternoon and is now threatening us with severe thunderstorm warnings and watches throughout the southern half of KS. Plus there is the threat of a tornado or two to add to the excitement! So I'm laying here in bed (hurts to much to move) listening to it rain outside and cramping horribly in the legs and back. Think I will go take a hot bath and see if I can relax. I am going to talk to my doctor on Monday or her nurse anyway so I will let them know the situation (already called today and left a message) so that it can be corrected. Or so I hope. I'm not mad or upset anymore because that only adds to the pain and it already hurts enough without adding to it.

Anyway, just wanted to let you all know what's going on. Hugs to each of you.
