Well I have a toothache and it is a tooth that I cannot afford to get pulled.  I used to be so afraid of the dentist and the pain.  NOw I am afraid of what he is going to charge me.  I cannot afford a thousand dollar dentist bill.  I don't know what I am going to do if I need a root canal this time.  But it looks like I will have to go and get it checked out.  Darn it.  I hope I can sleep tonight.

I have great insurance for health, but it has no dental or vision coverage.  I have an eye doctor's appointment on Tuesday.  This is after saving up for six months.  Ain't this country's healthcare grand??   NOT!

Wish me luck and say a prayer if you don't mind.

Thanks,

Lindaloo,
I will definitely send warm thoughts your way. I'm very much in a similar boat. And that's with some so-called dental plan. Fortunately, I've not been paying a lot for it, but turns out for the work I may need I'll have to pay a hefty portion - tho' I'm not sure I need it. And I need to get my eyes checked soon, too. Haven't had it done in years.

It's just not right we have to have such anxiety about the future when it comes to some basic things like dental, eye and other types of health care.

I hope it turns out to be a lot less than what you're expecting.

Hugs,

PaLady

Lindaloo,

I'm so sorry to hear about your tootache! Those are no fun (to put it lightly)! I can only imagine what you are going through with a toothache on top of your normal pain! Sending you lots of hugs & I'll keep you in my thoughts & prayers. Our health care system really is in shambles, and unfortunately, there is no easy fix. I've been reading lots about it lately for one of my classes, and unfortunately, my family has certainly been feeling the effects of it as well.

((((((((((((Lindaloo)))))))))))))))).

Best wishes,
Skeye

Lindaloo, I to will be keeping you in my prayers. In another thread I started earlier I and others discussed the fear that we face at times. Here is another one. That not only what our CP does to us, but also the rest of the every day circumstances on top of what we already deal with. Some might say its just a tooth ache. But when someone like you (as well as most of us) who is financially streched now has to deal with the expectation of a dental visit and the financial strain that brings. We search for words to pass on to touch the lives of others and there are not many at times. Prayers will be laid at the feet of a caring and compassionate God. Blessings!

Yes, great health insurance...no dental or vision.  It sucks!  I have a tooth that I had a root canal but can't afford the crown. At least it doesn't hurt..

I hope you can get it fixed Lindaloo, I will send some healing thoughts..

Linda Lou,

The dentist told me that I might need a root canal and a bunch of work. That
hasn't happened yet. It can't happen. I will have to pull them myself. No $$.

I wish you the best with your toothache. Your dentist will have to take care of
the problems. You can make payments.

I guess that goes for me too.

Awww Pamela,

I wish you luck and I hope your pain gets a little better.  I am in the same boat with you no Dental/Vision and only have Medicare because of the neck fusion and SSD, no secondary can be afforded, if they accept me its over $3000 per month with a disclaimer on the neck!  Makes for hefty out of pockets!

Hope you get some relief!

Thank you for all the support. Well it's Sunday and the pain is worse. Got some jaw swelling too. This is not fun.

My dentist does not accept payments. I am scared. It's not easy for me to go to just any dentist. I need the nitrous oxide cause I am terrified of the drill. Tomorrow I will call and see if I can get in. Uniquelyme had an idea; just wait on the final crown. That's something I hadn't thought of before. Might consider that if I can even afford the rest. Geesh!

I'll let you all know what he says tomorrow if I can get an appointment.

Thanks again all.

Lindaloo,
i feel for you - really do. Have you tried an ice pack on it? You probably have, but I remember the worst pain I think I ever had was from gum surgery. I just kept putting ice packs on for days until the pain calmed down. It's really cold at first, but then it starts to numb. Just a thought until you can get some dental help.

It's a crime we don't have basic insurance for our entire bodies. Just a crime. (sorry, I know that's a bit political. I'll shut up now)

Dental insurance is so expensive for what it covers, it is rarely worth it! But it is odd, most people I would think see a dentist as much or more than they do a doctor, but yet it seems dental insurance more difficult to get and expensive. and who gets insurance for vision to cover glasses? I agree PALady why don't we have insurance that covers our entire body including the mind????

Lindaloo I don't envy you at all, I hate going to Denist! Maybe it won't be as bad as you think, I hope it all works out well for you!

Good Luck

I must have
Nitrous too!
Let us know.
Please do.
We all think
of you.

When you carry Chronic pain,
Nitrous is even more important.
My dentist gave me a lot at first.
But now he thinks I'm a Nitrous junkie
and has definitely cut back on the amount.
It was so good. I felt the effects the next
day.
Girl, that might happen for you.

Well guess what, it's Monday and I went to the dentist. After long deliberation, I have decided to pull the tooth and eventually other teeth and get partial plates made. Meanwhile, I still have the tooth and it is killing me tonight. It is infected and the infection has spread to the floor of my mouth. The tooth had had a root canal done to it, but got infected. Go figure. Anyway, I am on penicillin and go back Wednesday for the pulling of the tooth. By then the infection should be better and I will get numb easier I was told. I'm all about the numbing.

I don't like any part of this. I hate dentists and I don't like the fact that you have to pay up front everything. They won't even take payments. Darn him!!

Wish me luck. I will keep you posted. Meanwhile my fibro is doing OK, thank God. At least some part of me is behaving hahahahahahaha!!!

Hi Linda,

Sorry to hear that your tooth is still really hurting you, but I am glad that you were able to get it checked out. I can remember the one time I had a toothache, years ago, and it was like nothing else! I can't even begin to imagine having an infection on top of that! I hope the antibiotics & getting that tooth pulled takes care of everything! Feel better!! Good luck on Wednesday! I'll keep you in my thoughts & prayers!

And glad to hear that the fibro is behaving itself. That's good news anyway! You certainly don't need, nor deserve to have a toothache AND bad fibro pain all at once! Yuck!

hugs,
Skeye

Linda,
It's late and I'm tired but want to send you lots of hugs and wishes for healing!

(((((((((LIndaloo))))))))

And I think it's lousy your dentist won't take payments. Then again, i'm not sure mine would either. Kind of leaves us up the proverbial creek...

Well here it is Thursday and yesterday I went to get the tooth pulled. I kept telling them that the antibiotics they gave me didn't work and that I still had a great deal of infection. Well, I was right. They subsequently, could not get me numb. So they couldn't pull it at the dentist's office. SO! I went to an oral surgeon who put me to sleep to pull the dang thing.

Finally, it is over. Not the pain, but the tooth is out! I can't wait to feel better soon. I guess the infection still has to go away. They still didn't give me new antibiotics although I asked enough times. So, I guess I will just take the stupid penicillin since its what I've got.

B y the way, it cost me five hundred plus dollars. He didn't take payments either. These guys must be super rich.

Thanks to all of you following my saga and thanks for your loving support. It has been invaluable to me.

Tell me this pain will go away soon.

Awe Linda, I sure wish I could tell ya when the pain would go away, maybe you should go
to your pcp and he might give you a stronger antibotic to take, like augmentin but then
you'd have to be able to swallow something as big as a horse pill, augmentin's are huge...

Lindaloo,
I'm glad the big ordeal is over for you (and as far as the no payments thing....I can't say that kind of language here!). If that infection doesn't start improving soon I would sure ask for another antibiotic. You know as well as anyone not all antibiotics work for certain infections.

I hope this one kicks in today and your pain starts to decrease!!

Hugs,

PaLady

Glad to hear that the tooth is out & that you should be on the road to recovery soon! Hopefully the antibiotics start working & you start to feel better!

This is probably both stereotyping & politically incorrect to say, but I feel like dentists/dental specialists make the most amount of money for the least amount of work. Them & dermatologists.
