Today was my first visit to my Pain management doctor. He gave me a series (about 6 shots) of injections of some type of drug on my muscles where my metal rods are. I forget the name of the drug he gave me (an anti-inflammatory that might be called Betamethasone),is this normal? My neck is really killing me right about now.

Anyway the doctor is really nice. He seems to really care about his patients. Tomorrow I call for my two week Vicodin refill from my PCP. Hopefully she's prompt at giving me the script.

Dave,
Have you tried icing your neck? I always need to do that the first day after I have injections. 20 minutes every hour. Also, you can check with your PM, but probably tomorrow you could take Advil or something. PLEASE do double check with your doc, though since I know that in certain cases people have to wait 3-7 days after injections before taking any anti-inflammatories.

Feel better,
frances

Dave,

It sounds like it could be either betamethasone, or dexamethasone. I don't know too much about betamethasone, but dexamethasone is used very often in the veterinary world. They are both steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. I believe that dexamethasone is more potent, but don't hold me to that.

I'm glad to hear that your first appointment went well. Hopefully the pain you have from the injections now will pay off & they will bring you some relief in a couple of days! Let us know how things go! Until then, feel better!

Fell asleep with a heating pad around my neck last night. My neck is still bothering me today, but it feels better. I called up my PM doctor today but he didn't get back to me.
