I headed for the Pharmacy (walmart of course) to get my percocet script filled today. Handed the lady the script and she said it'll take about 25 minutes. So I walk around wal-mart doing my shopping (it was a decent day as far as pain) and humming along to their stupid piped in tunes. After I realized that it was too early for them to have any of their flowers in quite yet and headed back to the Pharmacy area to pick up my meds I was met with a horrible new dilemma. The pharmacist informed me that they didn't have enough percocet or its generic equivalent to fill my script!!! Once again I felt that my stupid pharmacy was letting me down and didn't care one iota about me or my pain so the pharmacist asked me if I wanted to have him call around to see if I could fill it at one of the other pharmacies.....DUH!! Then after a lengthy conversation he informs me the following "We are finding it hard to find this drug. Opium is in short supply all over the world." WHAT!? Why are we not informed about this???? Aren't we as patients taking these medications privvy to this info? Well I finally filled it at another pharmacy but it was not the hydrocodone APAP like I have been taking but Endocet its generic brother. The pharmacist at Dillons told me that indeed Opium is in short supply all over the world and that most pharmacies are finding it hard to stock percocet....endocet or any other of its generic cousins.

So, just a heads up for all of you on this drug. You might find it hard to get your scripts filled!

Hugs

In the United States today, there is a pervasive tendency to treat children as adults, and adults as children. The options of children are thus steadily expanded, while those of adults are progressively constricted. The result is unruly children and childish adults. ~Thomas Szasz

It is not opium that is in short supply. It is oxycodone. The DEA mandates a quota on all controlled substances as required by the CSA(controlled substance act). Unfortunatlly that quota has been reached. If you google "oxycodone shortage," you will find several links that can provide you with more specific information. Some pharmacies still have oxycodone in stock. You may have to call around to all the pharmacies around your area and ask. If you can only get a partial fill, make very clear that they will fill the rest of your prescription when they get them back in stock or call your doc and make sure he will write you a RX for the remaining difference in the amount the pharmacy did'nt have. In case you did'nt know oxycodone is a schedule II(2) narcotic and can not be called in or refiiled. If you have been with this pharmacy for a while you should be in good shape, just make SURE you ask up front. Because if they don't fill the rest of your script in X amount of hours(I think it is 72) in will be void and you will go into withdrawals and thats not good. Hope you can find your meds soon. I can not imagine not being able to get mine!

Actually Bones according to my Pharmacist the opium that is one of the ingredients in Percocet is in very short demand all over the world. I even went online to see if it was true and according to the World Health Organization it is true. All of the poppies where the morphine is taken from in Afghanistan has either been burned to the ground or is used for illegal uses. If they could use this country for the growing of Legal Poppies so that the opiads could be used for oxycodone it would increase our output by a bunch! So your post is partly right because the oxy is the ingredient that is made from the poppy or opium.

Most of the Pharmacies around here will only order if I tell them I need it the following week and they don't even know if it will come in or not. So what the heck am I suppose to do now? I'm doing the pharmacy's job of making sure they order my meds plus trying to be a decent patient and give them plenty of notice (and gee I don't even get paid for this). It's just frustrating that I don't know if I am going to get percocet......endocet.....hydrocodone apap....or screwed!
