Oh Kara ~

Can't you save just enough to keep the internet. You need it. It helps
you.

Others on this forum say they have financial problems. In the
case of one CPer, she said she would pass the hat to keep access. You
could ask others to do the same. It would just take a few people
contributing a little tiny bit to keep you connected.

In these difficult financial times, I don't think it's unusual to ask.

e-mail me.

Kara,
Oh, I truly understand what you're going through! Like Pamela suggested, some forum members offered help to me. I haven't taken advantage because my resources haven't yet dried up, but please consider taking help (ok Pete, i can hear you buzzing!!! You're keeping me company!!). I'm glad you have the library.

Losing everything all at once is hard, too. Again, I'm slowly cutting back and will try to hang onto my internet (I will take help if I can't!!) so I can stay connected here. Do you have any friends or family you could visit to use their computer? That may be another option.

If it's any consolation my cable is going except for local stations, and I don't even own a cell phone (never have!). Just my land line. I also learned there was a discount for my phone after I qualified for low income energy assistance. It's a small amount, but every little bit helps.

Lack of meds is certainly the worst problem. I know others have posted resources here before, and maybe they can post them again. Like that partnership Montel Williams advertises.

(((((((((((((((Kara)))))))))))))))

We will keep thinking of you and sending positive energy so something improves!

Kara,
You're not losing our thoughts and our caring. Please remember that! And at least at the library you'll be able to touch base some of the time.

More hugs,

I have a cell phone but no cable or satilite! never did, just air TV. I just couldn't see paying for TV! I guess I'm old fashion like that. I've had kids at work tell me I'm the only person in Florida w/o cable! My kids grew up OK w/o it and just think about how much $$$ I saved in all these years!
Penny Pinching Pete!

Kara,

I am sorry to hear about your financial situation. It seems like so many people have it rough right now. It's just not fair. I am happy though, that your internet has been extended. Hopefully the doc's appointment tomorrow will go well & he will get you sleeping again!

Pete, you're not the only one! I grew up with only 2 local TV stations & really never watched TV. It wasn't until I was about to go to college that we got satellite TV, then I started watching waaaaay too much. Good thing I don't have time for it now. I actually can't remember the last time I had it on. Must be a couple of months now. Although I do watch TV series' on dvd when I need to relax, so I guess I shouldn't be talking.

Without the TV, I'm afraid I would never sleep. I love it at 3A. There is not
much to do at that time. It's my excellent soporific.

I used that word and THEN I had to look it up. turn

Kara sorry i just saw this but wanted to tell you for future reference that if you google free phone service you will be taken to alot of alter phone companies that compete with the big guys and can turn your phone on for free the first month and send you a lifeline application and if your disabled get anything in the way of public assist, food stamps, medicaid anything or anyone in your household your monthly bill can be as low as $20 a month, now this is no long distant but a $5 calling card can fix that and if you should lose your braodband at least you can go to one of the dial companies that offer really cheap monthly rates as well as your first month or more free! That way you wont lose this place and the support of friends.

Not alot of alternative to the cable situation and they just keep getting higher with everyone having to switch to HDTV before long,it is either satellite or cable or spend money buying a converter box and antenea that is HDTV capable.

Just google them and if nothing else put them away for a rainy day as you never know and you will have them when you cant have access to internet.

I use one and love it! I have broadband though with basic cable at the moment as they were running a special at the time but the phone option was way out of my league a month.

I had to laugh at the no cable in Florida since all I have is basic, basic, t.v. and only so I can retain my highspeed, I virtually get only the local channels and 4 educational channels. Not more then I would get if I had a converter box for the HDTV. I do just fine with the local stuff myself as when I have more then that I cant make-up my mind what to watch as there is generally more then one thing I want to see on at a time and I find myself switching back and forth not getting to watch the entire anything. LOL

Just wanted to give you the heads up with the lifeline and alternative phone companies as they have been a lifesaver for me living on SSD as I could never pay a normal phone bill ever.
