my english name is peter,i am from china,working in shanghai city.
i got the vocal cord paralysis for ten years.it is one of the most difficult and complicated diseases.the symptom is that you can  not speak as loud and fluent as normal people,and the worst situation is that you can not speak even a word.as far as i know,the western medicine nearly has nothing to do with it ,and the only way is operation,which can only improve pronunciation but can not cure it completely.and, the traditional chinese medicine also has no assurance of recovery.last year ,i learned from the internet that meishan people's hospital (established and maintained by the government and it is the traditional chinese medicine )in meishan city in sichuan province can make it,so i went there and stayed for some time.during the period,i was amazed at those patients ,who were from all coners of china and were once sentenced no hope by the local hospitals,with acupuncture therapy,made so much progress here,and some patients who had been in ill less than one year nearly all recovered basically in ten or thirty days,and the paralyzed vocal cord can move as nomal.at the time,the complementation of the traditional chinese medicine and the western medicine was so impressive that i came up the idea to build a bridge helping this kind of patients in western countries.
the vocal cord paralysis can occur after neck or throat surgery,cold ,fright and so on,and the probability is rather high.so i feel it is worth doing it.by the way,the acupuncture therapy is very cheap with eighty yuan per day,amounting to ten dollar per day.
vocal cord paralysis is nothing .timely treatment and confidence can defeat it entirely.
i will do what i can to help you.
best wishes.

I am so glad I found this post.  My right vocal cord has been paralyzed for almost 4 months as a result of surgery removing my thyroid.  I started voice therapy last week, but did not get a great feeling that it was going to help.  In fact she said if we don't see results in a few weeks that she would send me to another doctor to have collagen or something injected into my vocal cord.  They also talk about implants or other surgeries which is really not what I want.  Being a westerner I don't have much experience with acupuncture, but I used it once about 10 yrs ago for a severe knee injury, and I do think I healed faster because of it.

My doctors are confident my vocal cord will move again, but they say it could be years.  I don't want to go another day.  How long did it take for the acupuncture to work for you?  How many acupuncture treatments?  I plan to find an acupuncturist in NJ today!!  Thanks for your post.

whether you are being on the progress or not?if not ,i do not think you can recover by yourself without any treatment,because it will be harder to recover years later.
i hope you can luckily find an excellent acupunturist,who has experience about the disease.
let me answer your question:
firstly,it did work  the same day as long as  the remedy to the case is suitable.but as far as i know,the experienced doctor about the disease are few,even in china.or as a native of shanghai city,i wouldn't go to sichuan province for treatment.i hope i did not dispirit you.
secondly,the acupunture  treatment do no harm for your health.take it easy!
good luck! :-)
