What is a L5 Pars Defect?

I just had x-rays of my lower back and hips. (per Chiropractor orders) The poor guy can't help me anymore... cry confused

FINDINGS: In the report is says there are probably L5 pars defects and Sacroiliac joints appear grossly normal.

IMPRESSION: Probable L5 pars defects. No malalignment.

I fell off a horse several times back when I was 11-12 years of age before I learned how to stay on the thing. Could that L5 pars defects thing be catching up with me now that I'm 40?

Sometimes I have pain going across my lower back and down the outside of my hips. It feels like I have an invisible belt on and then it pushes down on my hips and makes them hurt.  Then other times pain goes across my lower back and down the inside of my legs. Also if I've been sitting too long my feet go numb and then it starts coming up my legs it doesn't matter inside or outside my legs, it just comes up. It's irritating.

Of course my doctor thinks I'm faking or something and gives me this weirded out look. He is actually making me mad I'm ready to find another doctor who will listen to me.

Please help, comment, anything of value.

Hara,
Can old seemingly minor injuries catch up with us as we age? You betcha!

It sounds to me like you need more than a chiropractor, and more than X-rays (likely an MRI). I have constant problems with my SI joint, as well as have had a lumbar fusion L4-S1 that failed. Anything in these areas can cause a lot of the symptoms you're describing. I have many of them, and you want to get this checked out soon. Nerves that remain compressed over time may never heal. I'd suggest asking for a referral at least to a neurologist. I honestly don't know what your diagnosis means, but I don't know if it matters because I think you need more help than a chiro can offer.

Let us know what happens.

Yeah that's what my chiro said to. He's just dumb-founded about why I would be getting better on the upper half like my head and neck and shoulders but then degrade on the ower half of my body, like trunk and lower back and such. He's mad at himself for not being able to help me. I told him don't be because every now-and-then I'm coming back so you can stretch out my neck and shoulders...hehehe

Oh and I asked my Internet doc for a referral to a neuro or ortho doc and he said, "NOPE."

I thought to myself, 'you are so fired after my insurance pays for my C-pap machine." I did not say that out loud.

I am going to wait my 3 months so that my insurance can see I'm useing my machine and that way they will pay for it and the stuff I need.. hehehe tongue So I am going to be interviewing doctors (M.D.) that the insurance company gave me that will take my insurance and are in my area.
