oxycodone 30mg

 I have been taking oxycodone 30mg for chronic pain. Lately I haven't been able to fill my scrip anywhere here. I tried to switch to the oxycontin 80mg but it just doesn't do it for me for some reason, or maybe that I don't like the waxy smell. It seems like I have to take more of the 80's than the 30's, which doesn't make any sense at all.

I know what you mean. I have also been Oxycone 30 mg. IR for quite a while. It is difficult to compare Oxycodone 30 to Oxydontin 80 because one is IR and the other is ER. The IR goes into your system all at once and the ER goes in 30% immediately and 70% spread over time. So it's entirely possible that the Oxycodone 30s are doing more to help your pain in the short term. They are intended for break through pain or highly variable pain like I seem to have. That is why they switched me from Oxycontin 80s to Oxycodone 30s. I take them for severe, intermittant pain.

A couple of months ago there was a national shortage of Oxycodone in all strengths. I believe that is over but lingering shortages may still exist.. Have you tried all of the area pharmacies? Is it available as 15s as it was a while ago? If so, perhaps your doc could rewrite the script for double the amount of 15s. The docs tend to be oblivious to the market conditions of the drugs they prescribe, both in availability and price, unless we tell them.

Lean on your pain doc to help you through this problem. There should be alternative drugs that could be prescribed. During the oxy shortage I was put on Opana for a while..It did OK with the pain relief but I had trouble with dizziness and nausea. Not everybody does, however.

Good luck finding the oxycodone or a short term substitute. The good news is that the supply seems to be flowing again.

Hi, Blue, I am so sorry you are having such a hard time getting your RX filled. Have you called your PM and let him know about this? He does need to know. And call around to other pharmacies and see if they have it,if you haven't already done so. I would think if you can't get this filled then the PM should write it for something else. I know I haven't been any help. But I do hope you get an answer and relief soon. I wish you the best.

I had the same problem with Oxycodone 15mg. a few months ago...My Dr. gave me a script for the Roxicodone 15mg. I tried to fill it and couldn't, went back to the office and got a script for Opana, I didn't have insurance and couldn't afford the $700 it would cost, I had to go back and get another script for Percocet 10/325... I couldn't believe how much more that was compared to the 15 mg. Roxicodones.... Anyway, now that I have insurance I get the Oxycodone 15mg. 120 a month...My insurance will only pay for 80 of them???? What an odd number.....
My next appt. is on June 4th, and I want to get the 30 mg. ones and see if they help better.

Are all Oxycodones IR? They don't say that on the bottle so should I ask for them?

I think that the shortage is over but they are playing "catch up" and we are still having some lingering troubles....

If the bottle only says Oxycodone it is IR. The extended release version always says ER. If you are not sure, call the pharacist. Or Google the medication code (from the tabs) to get the full ID.
