I have had back problems ever since an injury I sustained about 2 years ago. I have also had an increased pain level for about 9 months since having a failed epidural/spinal injection procedure.

I am writing this because I have been noticing a new and ever increasing symptom with my back. I have always felt as though my back could use a "pop" or crack but it never did. For about a month now I have noticed that my back will creak, pop, settle, etc. when I move in certain ways (twisting at times, etc.) or even when I cough. This has been becoming more and more prevalent as time goes on. It is getting especially bad when I am laying in bed and trying to sleep. I will wake up several times during the night (this is usual) but now my back will crack and pop when I move. I wake up at times and sit up quickly (I have had night terrors due to the Baclofen I take) and my back will go off and crack quite loud. These are loud enough that my wife even hears them.

So I have been noticed a crack, creak or pop in several situations and the frequency is increasing. It can hurt for a short time when this happens but it does not incapacitate me or anything like that. Have any of you on here had anything like this start up suddenly when it had not happened before? I have had MRI's (as recently as January) and they always show only slight arthritis and slight scoliosis but my back has rarely (if ever) popped. I am hoping this is not an indication of something getting worse....

Skrape, I made a post some time back that if I could get the pops and cracks in my back to be tuned, I could be a music machine. Mine is also loud enough for her to hear at times in the next room. I brought this up to my surgeon and he said it was noting to worry about in my case. He welcomed me to getting older and that comes with age but also with the fusion surgery. There are times when I lay in bed and try to crack my back hoping it will relieve the pressure and pain. I encourage you to mention it at your next dr. appointment and see what they say. By the way how have things been going for you. I have not heard much from you and I know it has been tough.

Hi Skrape, yes my back does alot of popping. It generally is a little uncomfortable when it happens but nothing I cannot handle. Personally, I always feel like my back is a little looser after its popped some. It is just certain movements that brings this on too. I told my dr about this and she says its nothing to be concerned with. But, yes do let your dr know and see what he thinks.

I hope things are looking up for you. You should let your dr know what the Balcofen is doing to you. You may need to be put on something else. I have nightmares that are vivid on Tetracycline and Demerol. I avoid these drugs totally as a result of that.

I told my doc a couple of times that the Baclofen gives me night terrors (well, that may be a bit of a misnomer since it happens even when I take naps) but he didn't seem concerned. I don't know if it really is that big of a deal but my wife probably does. Since being on Baclofen, I usually wake up by shooting straight up to a full upright sitting position. I usually don't remember what woke me in this way, except that I know it was something violent.

This is (I think) the fifth or sixth different muscle relaxer I have been on. None seem to do much and I myself do not think my condition is muscle-related.
