Does anyone get prescribed demerol? I've only known it to be taken at hospitals and outpatient clinics for procedures. How does it compare to other opiates?

To my understanding, Demerol is only to be used as a short term pain medication (two weeks or less). My old Dr. told me that studies have shown that deadly toxins will build up in a patients blood if prescribed for longer periods.I have since been able to find the same information on the net although I never doubted his word.I have only been prescribed it in small amounts after dental surgury twice over the years. It worked fine for that.
