I am starting to have severe hip(s) and lower back pain. My hips hurt all the time and my lower back takes turns hurting on one side or the other and sometimes the whole lower back is a pain. I don't know what to do? I've already had X-Rays done and my Doctor and Ruemy also know.

I have a possibility of a L5 Pars Defect whatever that is? What else is there to do besides be on pain meds?

I can't sit very long at all now. I've already been to Physical Therapy.

Hi Hara, I'm sorry no one has been replying. I have both hips and lower back at me, plus some sort of nerve trapped from the swelling in my right hip thats causing numb spots in my right leg. But I suffer from RA so mine is all linked to the dreaded word "inflammation". I have had cortisone injected in both hips twice now, it gives me relief for about three weeks each time and it is a glorious three weeks. I've been told to take smaller steps, no striding out, and use heat packs. Plus when I'm standing concentrate on stomach muscle clenching and bottock clenching to try and strengthen my core muscles. As for pain I can only empathise, I'm aching constantly and walking is awful sharp spears, but I'm sick right now, have the flu so it doesn't help. Hard to get comfortable in bed too. So I can only say, you're not alone. I'm suppose to be on water PT but have only managed two visits so far!!! It seems very supportve and the warm water is very soothing but once I start moving the pain is back with a fury! But it may be wort a try. Best of luck, golitho

Have you tried looking up L5 Pars Defect? or have you tried googling it? From what I have been able to find out, surgery seems to be the main fix, and some with it have been given a back brace, if the pain meds and PT haven't helped, what has your Doctor recommended? I can understand how painfull it must be for you. I would imagine the reason you haven't gotten any replies is that most do not know what to recommend to you. We are not Doctors and we can not give out medical advice. I do know that you must be in allot of pain, what has your Doctor recommended you do? I do wish I could be of more help to you!

Good Luck to you!

Just as a side note I noticed that you also have sleep apnea, if you don't mind me asking what is your diagnosis and what type of machine and mask do you use?

My Ruemy is trying to figure out with blood work and such just where my inflamation is coming from because (it) likes to run and hide in my body. But when she ran her hand up the back of my spine I about flew out of the chair and she almost got socked for doing that...I'm having a ultrasound on Tuesday at 7am. I'm not sure what that is going to show her besides my big liver and my hernia repair..lol

Thanks everyone.

Sometimes you just feel they want to irradiate you to make them feel like they're doing something!!! (I also have a double hernia-but have opted not to have to surgery just yet) Ask about the cortisone??? But I know nothing about an L5 pars defect. It doesn't sound good! Thoughts are with you, golitho

I had an ultrasound on my abdoman today. That was fun at 7am. I was told that I have a big liver which is pushing on my spleen which is hiding one of my kidneys. I knew that a long time ago and not one medical provider believed me, not even the MD Internest I have now. I'm going to walk or rather hobble into the doc's office when my appointment time comes and let him have it as a matter-of-factly.

Oh and my Chiropractor looked at the x-rays that he wanted of my hips and lower back and he even said that I had a big liver and elongated spleen and of course the L5 Pars Defect... (bows for him). I wish he was a doctor. He actually listens to me.

Doctors that listen??? They're a rare breed!!! They always seem too busy or go off on their own tangents... but it must be good to find a chiro who you can trust?

Yes it is a very good thing. I really like my Chiropractor. I went in one time when I couldn't pay and he didn't even bill me.
