yea, my mom ate a healthy fuji apple chicken salad at panera bread for lunch and suffered chronic pains all throughout the system. She has shared her personal belief that only Indian food agrees with her because she never feels any discomfort including joint and muscle pain unless she eats something that is not indian. Fuji apple chicken salad is not Indian, the discomfort came, and consequently a forced regurgitation soon followed... presumably right down to the pecan nuts and blue cheese.

sounds like a healthy meal, does anyone have experience with such.. and I'll come right out and say it.. outrageous method for joint and muscle pain relief after eating...

Darius,
Welcome to the chronic pain forum of Healing Well. Sounds like it's your Mother with the chronic pain issues and not you, but yet it still affects you.

I don't know all your mother's medical history and I'm not a doctor, but when you say forced regurgitation do you mean purging? Do you know if she's ever been evaluated for an eating disorder?

I do know as I am just now facing adding GI problems to my chronic pain, that people have to figure out what triggers their GI pain, and sometimes additives in certain foods, etc. can trigger things, but I just wonder about your Mother's behavior.

Certain foods can affect arthritis pain, but something just sounds like this is more related to other issues. I don't know though, this it just an opinion.

Hope this helps a bit.

        Dear Darius,

Hi  :-)   It is very nice to meet you, my name is Dani. Welcome to the Healing Well Community. I do hope you stick around and learn a bit more about methods of pain relif....

sounds like a healthy meal, does anyone have experience with such.. and I'll come right out and say it.. outrageous method for joint and muscle pain

Well that is the first I have heard of such a  method. smhair   It isnt anything I've heard of, but then again I once met a man who swore duct-tape was a cure all. Even after the incident with the door...

Good luck to your mother in her efforts at pain releif thou. Have you two tried researching any other methods for pain control together? Alot of info out there to be had. :-)

*huggs*

hi, thank you so much for all your input, warm welcome, and kind reply...

yea, the chronic pain issues are actually of no effect on me... just the method performed to relieve pain that i later learned was used.. disgusts me.. i myself suffer from acute ulcerative colitus and take great care to keep it under control in a responsible way because i don't want to lose my colon.. there's alot of pain with that ... chronic gas pains and constant urgency....

it's actually none of my business how another person deals with their chronic pain unless they specifically ask me for their advice on it.. that is not what happened in this case... was just curious because the method of pain relief seemed absurd to me.... or maybe it is because i enjoy those salads at panera and just didn't understand why someone would purge it afterwards !!

oh well... was just curious... thanks again.. take care,

currently taking herbal aloe concentrate from herbalife, mesacol, wysoline (10mg), azoran (50mg), folvite (5 mg), shelcal (500mg), providac, and tryptomer (10mg), and fiber supplement for regularity.

currently extreme gas is only symptom, no other symptoms from UC, not even any blood, and just wanting more flavors to come up other than vanilla for lactose-free ice cream..

Darius this sounds like an unhealthy purging and frankly makes no sense.

Vomiting causes endorphins to release in the body and since endorphins are the body's natural pain-killers, they do reduce pain levels to a certain extent.

Of course, while it makes sense on that biological sort of level, it's certainly not healthy from the behavioral perspective. smhair

Darius, I have some history working with people with eating disorders. People will purge for different reasons but after repeated behaviour of this type, it can actually cause damage. I am not sure if your mother is Indian and if so, she may be used to the spices in indian food which can be different that those wonderful salads at Panera Bread. I also like their coffee. In some cultures, people learn ways of dealing with medical issues without consulting doctors and simply use cultural norms instead. Is it possible that your mother is tied into cultural foods as well as cures?

hi, yea i never knew that about the link between endorphins and vomiting. i myself have kind of felt an endorphin-high after exercise. i guess i'd feel pain relief right now if i vomited on my health insurance administrator's desk right now, all over his/her accountant's paperwork....okay, that was a bad joke, sorry.. that would not be very good behavior.

yes, fatherjohn, it is classic ... i googled "ancestry remedies" and got a lot of hits:

Darius, I don't think it is a bad joke or even bad behavior. Maybe we could claim momentary insanity due to undertreated pain or insurance problem induced behavior. Hope your mother is doing well.
