Hey Chart,

I had blocked ears last year.  I am immunosuppressed and I got a really bad infection about a year ago that I couldn't shake.  I found out that if you get an ear infection, sometimes that mucous in your eustacian tubes gets really thick and hard to clear even after the infection is over.

My doc recommended chewing a xylitol gum three times a day for at least fifteen minutes.  Xylitol for some reason thins that mucous and the chewing helps to work that eustacian tube.  In ten days, without more antibiotics, my ears cleared wide open.

My only caveat is that the xylitol can give you an upset tummy with diahrea.  Trident is a xylitol gum but if you check a local health food store you might find some others.  I have one that is very high in xylitol and it really has helped me.

Good luck!!  Clogged ears is a horrible feeling!!  It is like having your head in a box!!  I hated hearing myself swallow or breathe.

Oh by the way....xylitol is very toxic to dogs.  Keep it away from pets.

Thank you gretchen, I'll look into this, my husband said to try a decongestant, so I'm going to try
that first..last time this happened to me I was like this for a month and when I popped it hurt so very bad,
but I will look into it and Thanks so much...
I was fine on the first part of the air flight we got to Dallas, no problems, but coming back to Houston
I guess my ears need special clearance from the FAA...or FCC (goverment agancies, lol) and on top of it all my brother
wants me to fly up North in October...they don't understand how painful flying is for me...
Dani start a thread on how to respond to traveling,
I don't know why you can't fly? or just drive? ( it's 1,250 miles one way)
These are very painful situations too....
Heck they should come down here for a change October is still hot but not in the 100's, but then
their kids are in school..I'll probably end up flying again..geezee..
It was very sweet of you gretchen and I'll consider it Thanks..HUGZ

Hey Char,

If it is wax in your ears that is the problem, you can actually get your ears "washed out." I remember my father (a doctor) did it to me, as I had really bad ear problems when I was younger (thanks to being a competitive swimmer). It was gross how much stuff came out, but it actually felt really good. I wasn't allowed to fly for the longest time because of my ears.

Could you have ruptured your eardrum on the flight? That happened to my roommate & it has happened to me before too, but not from flying. Although, ironically, my ear hurt less after it ruptured, than before...

I hope you start feeling better soon! ((((((((((Char))))))))))

hugs,
Skeye

Well, I tried about everything so at this point I think it is a ruptured eardrum, will try to get into the doctor..
Thanks

I am glad you got to a doc.  I am glad it is not a ruptured eardrum.  Feel better real soon.  The steroid should help with the pain.

Char,
Yea, adding things to what we already deal with is a bummer, but at least you're on the road to recovery!
